Great point. MIGS didn't operate from Texas; it was run from Florida. But when MIGS sued Levicoff, it claimed that it was doing business in Texas (business they claimed Levicoff interfered with by calling MIGS a degree mill). They said four students presented themselves to MIGS' attorney (who practiced in Texas), claiming they were dissuaded from enrolling because of such comments. (Absurd, but not as absurd as the date MIGS claimed this occured: September 31st.)

Anyway, someone (Steve?) notified Texas education authorities about MIGS' claim. Texas found that MIGS was running an unlicensed school and fined them $225,000. It was shortly after that we saw MIGS' website closed.

The lesson? Paul Culin should not answer the door when someone knocks, especially if they're just in from Austin.

Paulie, if you're still reading this board let me say that I'm very sorry that you couldn't follow the simple rules set forth to use this forum. I think your posts and point of view might have been interesting. I hope that you can get a logon id reestablished here. I also hope that you are personally driven into bankruptcy by the Texas authorities. :D

I went to high school with Erin Copeland. She played the clarinet in band. Now she is a lawyer. I don't know if she still plays the clarinet. No relation however to Aaron Copland.

The part that never ceases to amaze me is that these guys just never learn.

Every one of the jokers shilling for a degree mill or less-than-wonderful shows up beating their chest saying how wonderful their "school" is... making claims such as "My enrollment has doubled" and crying that they're just misunderstood innovators....

Many of them then threaten to vigorously sue us into oblivion...

And all of them eventually slink back down the holes from which they came, never to be heard from again.

I guess it's just another part of the life cycle.

It's a most delightful treat that I receive from degreeinfo.

    Thanks,

    Chip,
I wonder if the proprietors and scam artists who own these degree mills pay close attention to this forum. When a debate gets heated, they jump in and add a few remarks to "save face" and then retreat back into their foxholes.

    Uncle Janko complained:

    > And I still don't know who Copeland is.

Despite the spelling, it does seem to have been Aaron Copland. Here's a guitarist who admits to "briefly attending the Aaron Copeland Conservatory of Music": http://www.qb3.net/bio_gerantab.cfm

You can still buy Copeland Conservatory souvenirs (shirts, baseball caps, mugs, mousepads): http://www.cafeshops.com/copelandgear

Apparently there is/was an Aaron Copeland School of Music at Queens College. Can't check any further. Got to run.
