I didn't see any Asian languages or very much Asian culture in this guy's proposed curriculum. He seems to be approaching his subject as a physical education activity. His instructor bio emphasizes anti-terrorism work and military and police experience, but is silent about any meditation practice.

That was Jennifer's objection, I think.

A program like this isn't going to teach anyone the martial arts. The curriculum does apparently require that students study hands-on in an approved martial arts training program and reach specified ranks, but the students could do that just as easily without enrolling in this thing.

I guess that this program would add the survey of martial arts styles, their histories, and the one perfunctory philosophy class. The rest is health and fitness, first aid, kinesiology, pedagogy, and martial arts business.

It's all valuable material for anyone desiring to be a martial arts instructor, I guess, but it does seem to be kind of tangential to the essence of the subject.

I thought I read something about that on the website; I actually don't care enough to go back and look. :p

    Interesting

As a martial artist myself, I see limited utility for a degree with a martial arts focus. Perhaps the best adage to convey what I'm feeling is this:

He who knows does not speak...
He who speaks does not know.
