I've been thinking about turning some of my undergrad class experience + carrier work into some credits to apply towards a masters.

I believe I fulfill the requirements for a few classes and want to see if TESC's PLA(Prior learning Assessment) can help out. I have tried to discuss this with them and met with much disappointment.

I would simply like to know my chances of being issued credit for certain courses challenged. I personally feel like I have the knowledge and proof to back up my claims. But I do not feel like tossing my hard earned money at TESC only to have someone tell me I was mistaken.

If I challenge a course at TESC and do not meet the requirements set by the evaluator(But come close), do they give a flat "NO CREDIT" or do they actively work with you and let you do some more work and re-challenge without paying them again?

I was unaware that you could do a PLA for graduate-level credit. I thought it was only for undergraduate work - I could be wrong ...

The mentor will work with you to fill in any gaps (in their mind). They may ask you for some additional evidentiary material, or additional narrative which documents certain aspects of the course. But to answer your question, they don't just say "no", they do try to work with you.

    Cheers.

You'll find many answers to your questions about TESC PLA right here on the board - go to http://www.degreeinfo.com/articles.html and read the three articles beginning with the "Unofficial Guide" to portfolio assessment at TESC. (Portfolio assessment is the old name for what is now PLA.)

They were written by an Edison grad who earned 98 of his 120 B.A. credits by PLA. I've heard he can be a real putz sometimes, but rumor has it that he's brilliant. Alas, he's no longer in the education field, having decided after a brief mid-life crisis to become a long-haul trucker.

P.S. In case you find out who this brilliant putz is, I also heard another rumor that he still no longer answers personal questions about this issue. Apparently, he'd still rather drive a truck.

    :D

According to the TESC web site they allow the following PLA for their graduate degrees:
    MSM -- 6 credits (electives).
    MAPS - Looks like zero.
MSHRM -- Not clear -- maybe 6 to 12 credits (elective)
