Just to ask.... Since there is SO MANY postings/knocks/ect about St. Regis U, does anyone feel the way I do that SRU may possibly be the next Columbia State or MIGS? Is there any evidence to this fact (eg: since Columbia State made so much money - is SRU doing the same)?
Columbia State: $74 million in their last four years of operation -- and they were in operation for about 8 years in all. LaSalle: $35 million discovered; there may have been more, in their last four years of operation in Louisiana. The University Degree Program (from Romania): upwards of $50 million a year; estimate of $400 million to date. SRU: remains to be seen. Intriguingly, the first three named all had a "deep throat' person who gave, or sold, great amounts of useful information to the FBI and to others. One wonders if this is a common thing, and if there is, or will be, an SRU songbird.
MIGS never awarded a degree, legitimate or otherwise. So it shouldn't be grouped with Columbia State. Or with SRU.
True that in the bigger picture of the diploma mill landscape, MIGS wasn't more than the splash of a pebble. It was big news here because a number of our community was directly involved. It was also clear from the beginning who the owners were and they had a known colorful past. Finally, they had done a fairly good job of building a solid looking facade on the operation. It all added to the controversy.
Agreed. There were many ethical considerations involved certainly, but, to my thinking, it can't be a diploma mill until they actually sell or award something. Tom Nixon
