The Story Southern Baptists and rodeos... there's two things that go great together. Bull???? and bull ????. Bonus: go and exercise yer dominion over them thar animals....for'n ya eat 'em. I think it'd be great if jesus came back and exercised his dominion over christians by roping them and tying their hands and feet. And then (heaven forfend) eating them. OK...It wouldn't be great if he ate christians...and if he did they would certainly be justified in killing him again, if they could. Anyhow... reading the story, I came across: Interesting insight from Thom S. Ranier. I don't call the U.S. a christian nation, either, mainly because the U.S. isn't a "christian nation." dcv (out in leftfield in the pcusa)
Well, when you think about it, Christians seem to be fond of saying, "And He is the Shepherd and we are the sheep of His flock." And what do you think shepherds do to their flocks? They fleece them and make money from selling their wool or even finished woolen clothing. They breed them, making off stud fees from their adult male sheep's services and from selling adult female sheep's babies. They kill them, and make money from selling them for mutton and filet mignon. Conclusion?
I saw a story out of Canada recently where a church mixed religion with wrestling. They set-up a ring in the church basement, reception hall, or some such place and held events. It was intended to attract youth and, I'm assuming, to bolster a "mainstream" image. Having spent the majority of my life in the Bible Belt surrounded by Southern Baptists I have firsthand knowledge and accounts of the faith. I find that I have idealological differences with virtually all religions ESPECIALLY the Southern Baptists and the Pentecostals. (As you can see in my profile I have no religious affiliations, but yes, I have a faith in God.) The Southern Baptists have a marred image and it comes as no surprise. Perhaps if they'd stop waving the bible in everyone's face and actually took the time to have a open mind and open ear we would see some change. Ah, but alas, I don't believe it will ever be so.
Nothing new... The wrasselin' thingy isn't new... Second Baptist Church in Houston did that many years ago.... Now ladies mud wrasselin' might be something to try....
Re: Nothing new... Jerry Falwell used to stage wrestling matches in his church many years ago to attract people.
