Is it weird getting another BA after you already have a Masters? A little background. I work for a university and get free tuition so it would be no cost. It would just mainly be for personal growth, would not advance my career. I have always want to have a degree for this university. The reason for not getting another masters is Im not interested in any of the masters program. They offer a BA in general studies where u can pick three minors which I like.

I would be on it as quick as possible! I do not think it would be weird.

While it is definitely out of the norm, I am not one to turn down free tuition.

If your situation were different, I would recommend against it. For example, if you were paying for it or you were looking for job advancement (a BA in General Studies when you have a Master's would not help you obviously). However, since both do not apply and you are looking for personal enrichment, I'd say go for what makes you happy! If this is a program that you are doing for your own growth and you enjoy the coursework you're taking, who can fault you? Just my opinion!

Why not? If you think it's interesting and fun, then do it. It's not like you have to put it on your resume if you don't want to.

Just did not know how it would look on a resume. Not that I planning to leave my current job. Will most likely retire here but there alway that chance.

Yes, it's weird. It's so weird that you should just forget about it and find something else to do with the money you wouldn't have had to pay for your free degree.

In contrast to my little rib above, here is a serious response. You are under no obligation to put anything on a resume that you do not want there. If a degree is irrelevant and would clutter up your resume, you can leave it off. If you think the collection of all of your degrees makes you stand out in a positive way, you can put it on.

Randell1234 is a good example of just that. He leaves more degrees off of his resume than I will ever earn in my life.

My vote is no. A second BA in General Studies just so you can say you have a degree from XYZ university? Join a health club. Spend your time that way. It'll be better for you in the long run.

    daabels,

Would your tuition also be free if you chose one of the master's programs? I know you said you were not interested in any of them, but if the tuition is free, perhaps you could negotiate an interdisciplinary masters of some type.

I think one of the biggest benefits of working at a college/university is the free/heavily discounted tuition. Very few people are getting rich working in higher ed and not taking advantage of the tuition break is leaving money on the table. You should definitely do it.

I'll also add that not all colleges provide this benefit, either. I've been with one University for the past three years that not only offers me no discount but would require me to pay FULL TUITION to... prepare to be floored... audit courses for NO CREDIT. Aye aye aye.

    A. You have always wanted a degree from this university,
    B. The tuition is not out of pocket,
    and
    C. What you put on a resume is up to you.

    Ergo,

As Nike would say, Just Do It!
