Home ownership is a lifestyle issue. Never look at buying a home for an investment because as we've seen what goes up comes down.

Yes bazonkers, my minimum payment is 90. I kid you not. I believe the thought going through my head when I heard that number was "are you ****ing serious? My auto insurance is more than that". I suppose this is probably why it was so hard to get anybody to lend me a mere $20,000 (or less) mortgage.

Damn, that is a damn good investment. At the price you are buying, yes, you will make money on it over time.

How much per month is your homeowner association fee for the condo?
Some people don't like to own condo or townhouse because of that.

Yeah home owner's assosiations dues are a real pain; however, there is a pool and a club house with billiards, etc, as well as some decent landscaping and the water bill is included so my $150 a month is not wasted. Ha. It's more than my mortgage. Far from ideal, but renting something this size in colorado springs is at least $600/mo. Neighbor interviews went well and the maintenance guy was happy there.

Guess what else is awesome. I'm getting my fridge and stove for free (or very nearly free) off craigslist. I'll take a chance on free :).

Inpspection is on monday. Also in the midst of all this I'm hoping to take my first CLEP (information systems and computer aplications) before the end of the month. I'm losing my mind, but hopefully this test will be easy as I am a computer repair guy after all. My only concern is the 25% programming aspect.

No matter how you cut it, you made a damn good deal. $150.00 is not bad. You have a pool, barbeque area, and the lawn/maintenance and roof will be covered by the association.

Good investment all the way around. You were paying rent, why not pay towards your own property?

To those who are interested I finally closed and moved into my condo this week. It was a really rough rode but it happened! I couldn't be happier, and I am really looking forward to my tax return :)

Congratulations! You bought at the right time. The market will never be like this again so I don't think you will regret your decision. The degree will come in a few years.

Well speaking of the degree, I'm doing ALEKS again and picking up steam. I think I'm going to do most of them. That would be a huge step to have all those cheap credits. thanks so much for your support!

Once again you are making wise choices. Get as much out of the way as possible before you go to an expensive school. Why not make it as inexpensive as you can?

Thanks so much! I'm encouraged and in a better state of mind than the last few months. It's nice to have the condo buying out of the way.

On a similar note I think I'm doing my first CLEP soon, I know I've been talking about it for a while, but now that I've moved there's nothing stopping me from finally taking one.

I just set up my web server today and worked with computers for years, so I'm hoping that the CLEP equivalent of computer literacy will be easy. If I were to fail that I would have some serious doubts about the relevancy of the topics covered.

If I recall correctly, it was mostly questions about the function of a CPU, ROM, RAM, input/output devices, etc. Easy stuff.

On the practice test I took one of the first questions was something allong the lines of "which of these is an ouput device? a) keyboard b) mouse c) speakers". A few questions later it was asking fairly specific questions concerning assembly language. I felt the questions were a bit all over the place at no particular skill level. Oh well, I'll find out what the skinny really is soon.
