Hi, I have a friend who is looking for an online middle grades education course, it should be along the lines of teaching in the middle school. If there is an independent course she would more than be interested. The course has to be RA and she can not CLEP or use any standardized testing for this course. This is so she can maintain her teaching license. Thanks to all who respond!
Both Walden and Phoenix have continuing education courses. They're graduate level. Although it doesn't specifically pertain to the middle school level, I would highly recommend Walden's course on multiple intelligences. -Matt
Annenberg Media has a list of courses and workshops targeted to middle school teachers. Colorado State University awards graduate credit at a price of around $255 per course. Nice deal. http://www.learner.org/channel/workshops/workshop_list.html
>> I want to underscore how cool these classes are. They are totally independent study, but you do have to follow a calendar. You can only take 2 classes per semester, but they are all video based. In other words, you watch the streaming video series at www.learner.org and you turn in your notes and homework in one large packet via snail mail by the deadline. All of the classes (except 1) have an EDU alpha, and many of them are middle school focused. There are TONS to choose from, and you can select 2 or 3 credits. I'm a geek, but I have never watched a learner.org video that I didn't like! (and I watch from their website all the time, we don't have a TV!) I'm planning on taking 5 credits in my free time this fall. You can't beat the price.
