Oliver DeMille is well known in the LDS Homeschool world. He's also a holder of some less than wonderful degrees: Coral Ridge Baptist University (BA/MA/PhD) Technical Institute of Bible Studies (PhD) LaSalle (Law Degree?) My favorite for "Dr. DeMille" is under the FAQ: "Where can I read a copy of your dissertation" 6+ paragraphs of obfuscation: Oliver DeMille History
Yes, Mr. DeMille is, apparently, a dynamic speaker and a darling of the "Thomas Jefferson Education" set and homeschooling conferences. He is the founder and 1st President of George Wythe University (Wythe was Thomas Jefferson's law mentor). While George Wythe U. is a candidate for national acceditation (through the AALE), and now has a presdient with legitimate degrees, I was, frankly, not too impressed by the connection with Coral Ridge, which appeared to be a tiny education program within Coral Ridge Bsptist Church in Jacksonville, FL. It appeared that both Coral Ridge and George Wythe (originally a branch of Coral Ridge) awarded doctorates in a number of different disciplines without the faculty to support them. Mr. DeMille has admitted being duped by two diploma mills (Technical Institute of bible Studies and LaSalle University Louisiana), which does not inspire much confidence in his judgment. As an LDS educator myself, I would rather look to LDS educators like Steven Covey, Clayton Christensen, Kim Clark, M. David Merrill and many others, rather than Oliver DeMille. He is probably a nice man, but I do not consider his choices as worthy of emulation.
This report, made by the current Board of Trustees of George Wythe University, suggests that I may have been too generous in my earlier appraisal of Mr. DeMille: Final Steps in the Administrative Transformation of George Wythe University
