Okay, so...Bellevue. What's the deal?

So I thought I had it narrowed down to UMass and SUNY-ESC for my computer science studies, but I found Bellevue's site and think it would probably be the fastest track and then if decided to go to UMass later for additional studies...then I could.

They don't have a computer science program, but they do have a B.S. in Software Development available in a 54-week package. (with my previous A.A.S. from a local community college from years ago).

I'm hoping this school isn't a diploma mill. I've never heard of it prior to my search for online studies. But if I could get these courses and they are applicable to the type of job I'm wanting, without taking a ton of math courses, then I'm all in.

Does anyone have any experience with this institution? Thanks folks.

 

It's a good school and yes they will take you AAS in whole. Non-profit to boot....in no way a mill.

It's always nice to provide links so that everyone is on the same page (thanks emmzee). It's a decent school and if it fits your needs then I'd say go straight ahead.

 

This is my alma mater (B.S., Behavioral Science, 2010). Great school, very efficient. And they accepted my Excelsior A.S. in it's entirety (with the exception of 9 credits from Aspen which they did not accept since Aspen is nationally accredited via DETC).

I was able to complete 45 credits in 14 months. I transferred in about 20 FEMA ISP credits to finish up my electives (btw, Bellevue is one of the very few schools that will accept FEMA credits in transfer without having them "laundered" first). FEMA ISP courses are FREE and are available online.

There's also a ton of individual communities on LinkedIn, including one for current students and one for alumni.

 

I am currently a graduate student at Bellevue (Master of Science in Management of Information Systems with an emphasis in Project Management). I start again in March (so stoked) and thus far my experience has been very positive. I have been impressed with the school, MOST of the faculty and the materials we use (which are very current and relevant). I highly recommend them and no they are not a mill and yes they are accredited (regionally accredited actually).

This helps tremendously. The only hesitation is the cost, but many of the online programs are more expensive per credit hour. The fact the the curriculum is thoroughly outlined is a plus, because I can somewhat gauge what I'll be spending to complete the program.

With SUNY-ESC you make your own degree program, so the problem that I am afraid of running into, is that the creditload seems based on an arbitrary system. I don't want to get almost to the end of a program, only to find out that I need a bunch of various classes that I wasn't aware of. Does this make sense?

Bellevue seems pretty cut and dry about what their programs offer and require.

 

Cost wise Bellevue is still on the cheaper end of the spectrum...not APUS cheap but not terribly expensive either.

 

Friendorfoe, forgive me if you mentioned this elsewhere, but how many weeks long are the master's courses?

 

12 weeks per term. The summer term is 10 weeks.
