I am interested in enrolling in the NorthCentral University for a Master in Education. I have used the database in degreeinfo.com and this university seems NOT accredited. However, if I go on the website of North Central Association of Colleges and Schools (which is one of the Regional Accreditors) I can find that the University is accredited. Who is right ? Is it possible that there are only 3 Master in Education accredited in all the US ?
NorthCentral is regionally accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and schools
anavictoria. Check out the Educational Impact program at NCU. -- You may earn 18 credits for only $600. Thats $100 per EI module. NCU will host the educational impact courses. -- Tuition scholarship available for remaining courses -- IF an employee of an educational organization, you must seek approval to enroll in EI courses from an administrator of your school. This is a requirement. -- You will select a specialization. You may concentrate in education media, educational leadership, or other select specializations. They will be noted on your transcript and diploma. Ask your advisor for more info. Here is the link: http://www.ncu.edu/niche_market/landing_page/default.asp?niche_id=1822 -- Ray
Northcentral University www.ncu.edu is most assuredly accredited by the North Central Association www.ncacihe.org , one of the six regional accrediting agencies in the US. The reason you are getting info to the effect that they are unaccredited is that all schools must start out unaccredited. I forget when exactly when they achieved accreditation, but NCU, founded in 1996, was still unaccredited as of Bears' Guide, 15th edition (2003), but is now accredited as of Bears' Guide, 16th edition (2006). Note: Bears' Guide is _Bears' Guide to Earning Degrees by Distance Learning_, a guide to non-traditional education that has been in existence since 1974. The 1st through 12th editions were authored solely by Dr. John Bear, the 13th through 15th editions were co-authored by John Bear, PhD, and his daughter, Mariah Bear, MA. The 16th edition, brand spanking new, was co-authored by Mariah Bear and Tom Nixon. Bears' Guide is the absolute Bible of distance learning.
In other words, what I'm saying here, in my post above, is that the posts that said NCU was unaccredited date from before NCU was accredited. Degreeinfo.com dates back to 2001.
Here are some old threads that list accredited schools, with weblinks, offering master's degrees in education, available by distance learning, separated by pricing category. Re: Re: Northcentral University Note that Ana Victoria is a New Member with 1 post. It may be that she truly lacks knowledge in the area of distance learning and needs our advice. And it may be that she saw an old post from pre-accreditation days. Let's not be so quick to rush to judgement.
Perhaps she is not referring to "northcentral" but "north central"... http://www.northcentral.edu/ Which has a "coming soon" on their accreditation page... http://www.northcentral.edu/accreditation/
Ah! North Central University (Minnesota) is accredited by the North Central Association, too. The "Coming soon" of North Central University's accreditation page of their website mean that the accreditation page is coming soon, not that accreditation is coming soon. North Central University (Minnesota) achieved candidacy status with NCA in 1982 and became accredited in 1986.
