Hello everyone... I need some advice,Im working in the corporate field, have been for 10+ years,Im really good at what I do,actually Im one of the best at what I do. My education is very limited. GED,some college and thats it. I would eventually like to move up the corporate ladder but I am afraid me not having an actual degree in the something will hinder my climb. Im in the financial sector. I don't have time to go to school but dont mind spending the next year or 2 to get my BA and then my Masters. So my question, what is the best solution for my problem? Get a BA in Business Admin? and then work towards my Masters? Im in Canada by the way,so any on line university that is accredited would work? Please help SRK735
You can always look at Excelsior, Charter Oak, adn Thomas Edison. They allow you to transfer as many credits as you want into it and you can test out of many classes. It is not impossible to complete a BA/BS in less then a year.
In addition to Randell's excellent suggestions above, since you're Canadian, I would recommend checking out Athabasca University.
As long as your needs are so general I think you'll find that no one is going to argue with or add to the suggestions above. There are many more options and you can learn about them by scanning our board.
Down to the details, a little. Part of the quick degree recipe is credit by exam. For this, search the Web for "CLEP" and "DSST" which are the two largest credit-by exam programs. You can also find more on this forum about what it's like to do credit by exam. Subjects you know and/or are interested in are usually the best place to start. The most test-accessible majors IMHO are Business with no concentration, Psychology, and "Liberal Studies" which is sort of a mix 'n' match. The best choice is more-or-less a matter of what you are interested in, what you already have credit in, and what you plan to do after the degree. Business will need just a bit more math than the other two, if that matters to you. If you are thinking of a masters I would start with what pre-requisites they might be looking for and see what degree I can complete the fastest that will meet that. A MBA for example often requires that one has taken a core of business courses, but not necessarily a full business degree. Phillip
We just had a lady with cancer post the other day, even on chemo she got done in a year.....you can do it, she used TESC.
If you live near Toronto, Vancouver, or Charlottetown you might be able to take advantage of testing-out by way of CLEPs to knock out most or all of the general education requirements and some of the other subject area requirements as well. The is also the GRE subject examination which awards a range of credit hours. Given your business background these might be the fastest way to earn the necessary credit hours to transfer into Charter Oak State College, Excelsior College, or Thomas Edison State College. If you are good at test-taking, these options might get you to your educational goal most expeditiously. CLEP Test Centres in Canada
