Hello, I am looking for advice on the best way to approach and plan for getting a bachelor's degree. I have already decided that the only feasable way for me to do this is through an accredited online school (right now I am thinking either Exelsior or Charter Oak). I have researched the idea of "testing out" by taking CLEP and others to obtain as many credits as possible in a reasonably short period. I think this is the best route for me due to time/family obligations. My main question is if I obtain a degree through mostly CLEP/daantes credits, what chances will I have of getting into an ABA approved Law School if I decide later to apply? Has anyone done this with success? Also, if I decide to just get a bachelors what would transcripts look like if the majority of my credits come from testing out? Any advice would be appreciated, I have decided to to this a little late in life ( I am 36 with a large family).
Since you think you may want to attend an ABA-accredited Law School in the near future, that means you would attend locally and not through distance learning. I'm also guessing that you wouldn't move your family to attend law school either. Hence, I think you should call the ABA-accredited Law schools in your area and ask that very question. That said, I'm guessing that with a high GPA on actual course work and a good LSAT score that you could be competitive to attend at an ABA-accredited school. You should ask schools in your area to obtain a definitive answer though. Dave
For Excelsior: Your transcript would list where the credit came from, the year, the score, and the subject. If you have at least 30 graded credits (from any source), then you will have a GPA at Excelsior. Excelsior gives letter grades for their own exams, for DANTES exams, and for some CLEP exams.
