I'm no longer with Keiser College, and have taken a position at Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. as an academic advisor and educational technologist. As a result, the family and I are moving back to the D.C. area next week. I've very pleased, as I've been interested in returning for some time for family reasons. Southeastern (not to be confused with the totally unrelated Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale) is a small regionally accredited, private non-profit institution founded in the late nineteenth century. They have a few Bachelor's and Master's distance programs, as I learn more of use here I'll certainly relay it. -=Steve=-
Congratulations Steve! It looks like a nice school. They have a bunch of good looking online degree programs too. Jack
Steve, Congratulations on your new appointment! Southeastern sounds like a great opportunity. I notice that your name is already in the directory, but without any other information. What will you be doing at Southeastern?
Re: Re: Moving to Washington, D.C. area! My title is "Academic Advisor" and I'll be meeting with students to help them decide what their schedules ought to be, evaluate transcripts, and so forth. However, the place only has 900 students, and when I visited there it was clear that it's a very... dynamic environment. They've told me that my educational technology skills are what interested them in me in the first place, and that since everyone there wears multiple hats, that's a hat I'd better keep close at hand. That's actually what interested me in them. It's clear that they're small enough that someone with ideas can conceivably get them implemented. That ought to be refreshing after working for a proprietary environment in which a small-minded Chancellor's office thought it had all the answers. In particular, their online program has only a few people dedicated to it, but as they're an RA Master's level school, it has enormous potential. (No thanks, Nosbourne! That's more Adella's cup of tea. When I'm done with what I'm doing at GW, I plan to do an EdD.) -=Steve=-
Hi Steve, Good luck with your new appointment! I was an academic advisor for a year and enjoyed it immensely, I think you will be an asset to Southeastern. Stop by the Loudoun campus of Strayer sometime and say hello to a fellow degreeinfo member if you are ever in the Ashburn area.
Steve, Congratulations on the new position. (The new SEU website looks much better than the previous one.) Kevin
I worked there for 3 years for a company with a contract with the DC government. While I'd never heard that sentiment expressed in that fashion, I'd have to agree with it.
First, thanks to you and everyone for your kind words! Actually, I was hoping to arrange a meetup for any interested D.C. area DegreeInfo regulars (and lurkers) sometime in the new year. Perhaps we could even have a small reception at Southeastern if people are interested in a reason to check out the school. -=Steve=-
