Hi everyone! I don't know much about DL programs but I would like to pursue a Bachelor's Degree offered in a self paced format, with assessment by assignment and/or research. Proctored exams are out of the question for me because of my work schedule and travel. That said, can anyone advice me on which accredited programs that use this kind of format are the most affordable? Thank you!

Don't be too sure about not be able to do proctored exams...

    Hi Steeler,

Don't be too sure that you couldn't manage proctored exams. I am a professor in at Mount Saint Vincent University (Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada) where we have offered distance learning for over 25 years in a variety of formats. One of my students wrote an exam in a submarine in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, proctored by his Captain. It just goes to show that distance education is truly portable, depending on the institution that you choose to do you studies.

What area of study do you desire a Bachelor's degree in? With the low Canadian dollar (relative to the US) you may find some of the Canadian DL schools an excellent overall value.

Also, with the government licensing mandatory across Canada, our degree-granting institutions are more reliable than in other parts of the world (particularly in the degree mill era) making the decision fairly worry free.

Schools that offer a lot of DL in Canada include:
    Mount Saint Vincent University (www.msvu.ca)
    Athabasca University www.athabascau.ca)
    Carleton University (www.carleton.ca.

While I don't know which ones offer full degrees, a quick check to their websites would probably provide that information. At MSVU (my school) we are equipped to offer a Bachelor of Tourism and Hospitality Management degree, as well as a number of other credentials through a combination of video-based, computer-based and print-based media.
It is worth checking out. Good luck with your search for a great DL school..

    Another URL

You might want to try looking at the programmes from across Canada. Currently there is a forum for all DL programmes leading to degrees and certificates in Canada coordinated through the Canadian Virtual University (Université virtuelle canadienne) at Canadian Virtual University.

The following is the direct link to the programmes page.
