Two generals in the South African military were arrested today for faking their university credentials. boom
Two generals nabbed for fraud. Snippet: According to Scorpions director-general Gerry Nel, the two joined the army in 1996 with allegedly false tertiary qualifications. They initially were appointed with the rank of lieutenant colonel and were recently promoted to the rank of brigadier general, he said. ... He said the arrests were just the tip of the iceberg and further investigations were underway. (Scorpions = Directorate of Special Investigations)
Joined the army in 1996 and promoted general? Nobody promoted me. 2LT from start to finish in an illustrious 3 year reserve army career. Armoured Corps - I sat on a tank once. Looks like they need more generals. Are they recruiting?
Politically this is red hot. You may notice that these two are referred to as former members of "MK." MK was Umkhonto We Sizwe ("Spear of the Nation") -- the "liberation army" of the African National Congress.
So what you are trying to say is that the South African Army may not be an equal opportunity employer.
If they are not careful in an effort to be politcally correct they are going to royally mess up their military and their education systems. Both of these were world class albeit not free of discrimination. The goal should be to take these institutions and transform form them effectively into more diverse but equally world class organizations. Letting the ANC stuff any knucklehead who is breathing into slots as high ranking military officers and university presidents/board members would not be a wise move. Surely there are well qualified black South Africans (who may or may not be ANC members) to assume various posts. North
