I really really appreciate ANY views. I am doing DL Degree from University of Manitoba in the B.A. I am debating the 3 offered Majors: a)History b)Geography c)Canadian Studies (??) I like them all, but what degree will look better to have and get me further (further study opportunities and future stuff)? I want to know what views people have on each. THANK-YOU (in advance)
Since you say that you are anticipating going on to graduate work, might it be fair to assume that you are hoping to become a professor some day? I'm not sure that any of the three would necessarily be that much better or worse than the others; it all depends on what interests you. If you are undecided between the three, you might take the following approach: look at the number of credits required to earn the bachelor's degree, then look at the number of credits required for a particular major; it might be that the coursework distribution between required general coursework, major field courses, and free electives may leave you with enough free electives to do a double major, such as History and Geography. Moreover, since the Canadian Studies coursework will contain a substantial component of History and Geography courses, you might be able to do that as well, thus keeping your options open for what field to major in when you get to grad school. Yes, I never thought about double major. Just assumed 1 was enough THANK YOU for the help. I was losing it debating a major. I guess now the question is...what is it that really interests me? I like to keep my options open, Canadian Studies could be unique in its program offering as well.
