    Hello everyone,

In some countries, universities ask job applicants to have done their PhDs in the same field as their BAs and MAs. However, I am thinking about getting a PhD in journalism or media while my BA is English Language and Literature and my MA is English Literature and Criticism. What do you think about it? What about job opportunities? And any specific low-cost universities (anywhere in the world) you would suggest?

By the way, I wonder if you know of any university where the English and journalism degrees are offered from the same department.

Without any considerable and documentable professional experience as a journalist or an MA in journalism, I think your chances of getting into a Mass Communication or Communication PhD program (with a print journalism concentration) are slim. English language and literature are not the same thing as journalism. From my own past research, I found that there aren't many PhD programs entitled "journalism". Most are - as I wrote above - in Mass Communication or Communication and (some communications programs) allow you to focus on print journalism, broadcast journalism, etc. Job opportunities in journalism, as a whole, are not very good in the USA and the pay is usually low.
