I am about to look into the PHD program at NOVA. I am one class from my MBA at Ellis College. My company will pay for 9 classes per year in full so cost is not a real issue.

Does anyone have have any recent experience with NOVA

I want to do their IT Security program

Just finished an Ed.S. in the SCIS - same dept as the IT security program.

Good program, good teachers. I left to finish my doctorate at NCU because the labor problems/support staff (union not happy about something with the school administration) behavior delayed me at least a year.

The school and the degree got me a FT academic position with a Tier 3 university.

I lived in Fort Lauderdale until last year, and NSU has a decent reputation locally. A colleague of mine decided on their DBA last year, and he did a lot of research and is a reasonably discriminating guy. (Of course, part of his decision was that they have a Jamaica campus, which is probably irrelvant to you.)

    Good luck,

How does the coursework compare to NCU???

Any pro's or Con's you may have in reference to NSU.

Jim, How long did it take you to get to ABD???

As to the first, I have an insufficiient sampling from NCU at this time.

It took me 3 years to become ABD - best case is two years@10 credits per term (and no mistakes/bad info) from the support staff.

It is like comparing apples with oranges. NSU is an established well known school while NCU is a virtual online school with little recognition.

I would think this is like comparing a degree from Colorado State with one from Jones International.

Does the fact that NSU has been around a while and NCU hasn't make the coursework any less? Doubtful.

I would rank the amount of work in the NCU courses I've taken so far to be similar (if not more work) than the MBA coursework I've completed at Univ of Texas at Dallas.

Your experience is valid and welcome. However, this person is asking if NCU can be compared with NSU and they can't. They are just in at different league.

I would agree...to a point. But his question related to the coursework, which is what I addressed. Comparing the two schools from a point of which is the more recognized school, I would say NSU as well.

Personally, I would have seriously considered NSU myself if there had been a location in Dallas to attend the residencies.

I just wanted to know how feasible the coursework (2 classes and 1 project per term) will be at NSU while keeping a full time job.

How much did the books cost per term at NSU?? Can you give me a example of a assignment at NSU.

There are plenty of examples of courseload at NCU on this forum, I was just trying to get a idea of NSU.

    Thanks.

Try this link http://scis.nova.edu/~ellist/ and then select "PhD classes.

Each person is different but if you have a FT job (and don't work for the state of Carolina) AND a family, 10 credits (3 classes) may be a bit of a stretch. OTOH - many people do it. Me, I was stretched too thin - unless I was already comfortable with the material (Data Communications, Security, etc.)

One who did this while working and being a single mother, told me that "No one is going to care is I got a "B" instead of an "A"" - and she's pretty much right.

Does NSU provide books??? I rather a program that utilizes books. (This is why I am not considering Touro )

How much did you spend on average on books per class at NSU??

    Thanks again...
