OK. When I think of IBC, I think of a kind of root beer that you can buy from the sutlers at Civil War re-enactments.

Well, I've never had a job that required my MBA.

I don't know, what was the source for this? This sounds like precisely what someone would say if they wanted to hard-sell some banking arrangement in Nauru.

"Swiss University of Juche Studies. Because there are only two places in the world to get a degree in Juche Studies: North Korea, or the Swiss University of Juche Studies."

    Hi Jonathan.

Nope - wasn't a Nauru hard-sell. Forget exactly where I read it, but the opinion of Nigeria and Myanmar is mine - not some hack peddling foreign bank accounts. You can find these three jurisdictions on the FATF (Federal Anti Money-Laundering Task Force) List of Non Co-operating Countries. Here's a quote from "Covering Globalization - A Handbook for Reporters," by Anya Schiffrin & Amer Bisat :

"...as of August 2003, those that were still on it (the list) were the Cook Islands, Guatemala, Egypt, Indonesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Nigeria, the Philippines and the Ukraine."

The list is a bit shorter, nowadays, I believe.

As to the University of Juche Studies - I'm sure it's legit. I never said all Cantonally-approved schools are "bad." SMC that Steve mentioned is "good" enough for ACBSP to approve most of its programs. It's almost impossible to establish a Federation-approved school in Switzerland. Requirements include at least 100 full-time professors - and a lot more besides.

Not all cantonally-approved schools are as "good" as the schools we mentioned and none of the cantonal schools' degrees has any standing in Switzerland. Germany even rates the SMC degrees "deficient," though the programs are ACBSP-accredited.

Just a darn minute here, Jonathan! :)

    Hi Again -

Jonathan - I'm not able to find a Swiss University of Juche Studies. There is a Swiss Juche Study group here: Juche studies « Schweizerische Juche-Ideologie-Studiengruppe – Groupe Suisse d'Etudes des Idées du Juche – Swiss Juche Idea Study Group

Definitely not a University, (Cantonal or Federation)

Is this the place you meant? If so - I think it's interesting (if you like Kim Jong Il) but don't think it's germane to the discussion, as it doesn't appear to be a University. BTW - North Korea is said to have a couple of VERY good schools for those who want to learn computer (black-hat) hacking.

    Cheers - Johann

    North Korean Hacking Schools

Pyongyang Automation University (formerly Mirim University) and Amrokgang College of Military Engineering come to mind. It's said their grads are as good as CIA hackers.

    Hi Jonathan -

Indeed you were -- and you "had" me too - completely - until I actually looked for the "Juche University." It seemed a plausible, although rather depressing concept. Good one! BTW the Swiss site is not the only Juche Study Group outside North Korea. I found them in Australia, England, Malta, Mexico and Ireland - there are probably others. What the attraction is, I have no idea.

Well, better to STUDY Juche than practise it, I guess... :)
