Of course not. It just means you don't answer to shareholders. Lots of money is involved in non-profit education.

I think most shareholders of for-profit schools are like smart professional sports team owners; put the right people in charge of the day-to-day operations, and let them run things. One of the reasons the New England Patriots have been so successful is because Robert Kraft gives Bill Belichick pretty much free reign to do what he wants.

That is probably the best explanation of "terminal degree" I have heard.

I say go with K-State for the master's and Capella for the doctorate.

Many years ago, it was announced on a.e.d. that Plantation University (a "venerable" Kentucky institution) was offering a host of DL programs, including 100% non-resident doctorates (unheard of at the time). After much debate and investigation, it turned out to be a hoax perpetuated by Steve Levicoff, soley for his (and eventually our) amusement.

    Hi All,

My friend has really enjoyed reading them, and she has this to say. Her words now "Hi all, thank you for your kind responses. My ultimate goal is to open my own boutique consultancy firm, and maybe teach on the side. A bit about me, I have over 18 years of work experience, ranging from state government, civilian telecommunications company, training & development to military. I have a bachelors degree in political science and a masters degree in liberal arts. The reason why I want to study I/O psychology is because it blends two of my passions, organizational management theory and psychology. And the Capella program seems like a great fit, just not sure of the reputation. The degree will be paid using the Post 9/11 GI Bill, so any out of pocket expense should be manageable. I don't plan to teach full time or enter academia, I just want to have the degree so that when I do open my own business, then I can be looked as an expert in my field, not sure if a masters degree will offer that. Again thank you for your time, I just wanted to see my options. Great website BTW, I love it, thank you. -Anne"

End quote///// There you have it folks, another satisfied customer, all thanks to the friendly folks of DegreeInfo. In all seriousness, thank you all for taking the time to answer and guide her, I told her I had no clue, and that the members here will point her in the right direction. :biglaugh:

If all that is needed for credibility is the title "Dr." then Capella will work. Otherwise, it's probably not going to provide much credibility for a consultancy firm. I don't think it would necessarily hurt, but I'm not sure it would help if the client is looking for something other than the title "Dr."

J.Smith, PhD, Capella just doesn't have the prestige that J.Smith, PhD, Michigan State would have.
