    Ted,

The above post was directed at Abner's "loser" comment - guess I need to pay more attention to the "reply" button.

Thank you for clearing that up. I am not worried about how people perceive my comments, or whether or not people take me seriously. I do find your comment rather pompous. You may be a tenured professor, however, you are not my professor.

    Thank you kind sir!

I sometimes despise political discussions because perspective tends to go right out the window. While I disagree with many things President Bush has done, and I disagree with the way the Iraq situation has been handled, I do try to keep perspective.

I keep perspective by comparing recent situations to somewhat similar situations in the past. The period of reconstruction in Japan has similarities. While WWII was longer, the entire idea of rebuilding a country is the same. Does anyone care to guess how long reconstruction lasted in Japan? Does anyone care to guess how many American troops were stationed in Japan each year during reconstruction? Did anyone know what differences between the Iraq situation and Japan that helped ease reconstruction in Japan?

If we can calmly discuss issues without using unsubstantiated rumors and conspiracy theories, we may all learn something.

Talk about being taken seriously? What kind of argument is that? I know what you are but what am I? A loser can be a loser no matter where he/or she is. And I am doing quite well thank you.

Abner - it isn't an arguement at all - nor was it intended to be perceived as a personal attack - any more than you "Bush is a loser" comment.

While I am not a Bush fan - being head of the world's most powerful country - or any country - has got to be a tough job.

Sorry, I did not mean to respond as aggresively as I did. This is no excuse, but I am involved in the inner workings of one largest unions in the world. Lately, I find myself quashing coup attempts from outside groups. This involves aggresively responding to anything that may appear to be a threat. It's kind of hard to turn off the attack mode.

But I digress. Have a good day and week!

Somehow I had never quite thought of the comparison. But it does make sense. Having young men jump out of trenches and run straight into machine gun fire in the name of attrition (WWI) does seem wasteful. I, of course, have no doubt in my mind that GBII is wasting men in Iraq.
