Hello, I am short 12 credits for completing a BS. in Psychology using CLEP, DANTES and TESC. Excelsior has accepted all the credits but since I did not enroll, they have not answered my question which relates to information literacy. Does Excelsior require information literacy for non-enrolled student? Thank you. Camille
If you intend to obtain your BS/BA in Psychology at Excelsior then you are required to have one semester unit in information literacy (based on my reading of Excelsior on-line publications). This is a valuable course you to have anyway, and I would think it would be a relatively simple course compared to some of the other required courses for a psch degree.

Camille, Info Lit is a requirement to graduate from Excelsior. I'm not sure what your question is really. If you are not a student of theirs then you have no requirements at all. The Info Lit course is doable in 4 hours. I finished in less than that. The quizzes are very basic and "open book" as is the final. I wouldn't be concerned about the course itself other than the cost. Hope this helps -John
Thank you all for your replies. I will sign up for the course and get it over with. I appreciate the help. Camille
Camille, I recently enrolled (should say re-enrolled, as I was enrolled some years back) in Excelsior, and have only two subjects left to complete my Business Associates Degree: English Composition requirement: Enrolled recently in a independant study course at Colorado State University which i'm currently working at Information Literacy Requirement: Currently I am looking for a cheaper option thatn Excelsior's 280 bucks (I think it is). I emaild Education Direct some days ago because I hear they have an affordable course that might cover this (would have to confirm with Excelsior first though). But ED hasn't replied, wonder if one has to call them by phone to get the info.
Perhaps this course will satify Excelsior: LIBRARY/INFORMATION SCIENCE 100 — Introduction to the Virtual Library — 1.0 Unit Introduction to electronic information resources and services available through the Coastline Virtual Library. Students will develop basic research skills, such as creating a search topic, developing a search strategy, using electronic search tools, and distinguishing between the different types of resources available. Students will learn to apply critical thinking skills to the research process. Knowledge and skills from this course will provide a foundation upon which future research skills may be built. • Transfer Credit: CSU http://coastline.cccd.edu/default.asp Coastline Community College in California offers this course by DL Given the one unit course the cost is $152 and for CA residents $26. There are additional fees in addition to tuition fees.
Ian, thanks will look into that one. Since I live in Europe I also have to see if/how many proctored exams it requires.
John, Thank you for the reply. I signed up for the online class and it appears that Excelsior has reduced the tuition. The cost was $250 per the information literacy class. Registration ends on 9/25 and the class starts on 9/1. Good luck! Camille
Hello John, Did you have to submit assignments during the course? Also, did you use any textbooks to prepare? Thanks, Dennis
Thanks. Oh well, guess I might have to dish out the 250. I'm poor already so who cares if I become even poorer?
At least you only have to spend it once Will! I know your almost ready to graduate, so go for it! Hope you are doing well. Wish I was in Spain right now, but I need a new roof! Oh, well, maybe next year. Take care, Abner
Abner, I don't mind giving all my earnings to the American University system, but the problem is I'm not "earning" since last January. Also the 250 bucks is not the end, there's still the GRADUUATION FEE (over 400 big juicy american dollarsssssss). I really wonder sometimes if getting a meager AS in Business at 47 will revert back in Euros once I look for work in September, especially since I am just lookign for a part time position...Oh well, at least I will die saying that I Made it, whatever that means... To hell, die with my boots on !
Yeah, I know what you mean Will. Just take it one step at a time. Receiving your Associates will be well worth it and will look great on your resume. An Associates degree can open many doors. When I worked in Insurance, I was hired by Metropolitan Life Insurance company. There base criteria was the possesion of an Associates. The Claims Adjuster training I received from them was incredible, and I was able to use it later to seek more money in the field. Here in the U.S., having an Associates and above opens the door to various government jobs as well. Just a few thoughts. Take care buddy! Abner
