not yet finished I read it and have to agree that is very interesting to see how and obvious scam still is able to get customers. I already posted something similar on this thread [http://forums.degreeinfo.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10397] In the lsit you also mention that Heald business college was closed down in 1999. The how come i found this on the internet. It came to my attention through a banner that was placed in yahoo. [http://www.heald.edu/#] They claim thier accreditation like this: " Heald College is accredited by the Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges of the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), an institutional accrediting body recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation and the U.S. Department of Education. " And if you finish your 18 month degree or diploma in business you can study: " After graduation from this program, many students pursue certification as a Microsoft Office Specialist in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint. " [http://www.heald.edu/catalog/cba.asp] Is this a joke or what?
Heald College is listed at: www.chea.org and is regionally accredited as indicated. Is your post rhetorical?
You missed the funniest part: rdl50 writes: > I read it and have to agree that is very interesting to see > how an obvious scam still is able to get customers. The existence of customers is not surprising. What's surprising is: (1) They haven't been sued, prosecuted, or cease-and-desisted out of existence. (2) Employers and governments still ask to see people's diplomas, rather than verify all degrees by contacting the school.
Actually my government agency (Federal) required me to have official transcripts sent to the HR directly. They then verified these against DOE and accrediting bodies. Not sure if others follow suit, my position has academic requirements so they must be verified. Anybody get one of these for research purposes? I am curious if the names/signatures on the diplomas are forged to represent the real thing or if they have a disclaimer to stay out of court.
My doctoral research showed that a good name on a fake school was more effective with employers than a bad name on a real school.
I don't get it. What's wrong with Heald? I see their commercials now and then on the television. Bill
When I get some highly interesting time, Tony. I just changed jobs and have been pretty occupied. I am considering submitting to one of two, but would be interested in hearing from people about which journals they think would be good sources for this....
