$8K from the .gov is enough to take 24 credits hours in a year at $333.34/credit hour. Thats two semesters at 12 credit hours per semester. If you are only going for an associates why even bother with AMU? Most community colleges have associates programs that cost less that $250/credit hour.

I am just messing with you. I am active duty Coast Guard. It used to bother me, at least bother me more, when people didn't even know the Coast Guard existed or thought for some reason that it is less military, whatever that means, than any other branch. Honestly we are so small that most people have no idea what we do or where we are located. It is what it is, being so small has advantages and disadvantages. I know the value of our organization, I don't need other people to realize it.

So Uncle Sam is offering you $8000/year? Is this grants or loans? Seems like the USA is doing its part. Frankly, if you can't figure out a way to get an AA/AS on 8K/year in the US then your doing it wrong. I doubt moving to another country will solve your problems.

That's true...the Coast Guard is often forgotten even though it has some of the most dangerous work even during peacetime! My brother was in the Army with me and then enlisted in the Coast Guard and stayed in until retirement. He told me about some pretty dangerous work. Even though I'm a cop, my brother always has better stories to tell. At one point I tried to join him, but I had too many dependents and they wouldn't take me. Even though people forget the Coast Guard it's one of those organizations that would be sorely missed if it took even one day off.
