And this is why one of the current debates in the Republican Party centers on this simple question:

Consider Reagan's stand on some of today's hot issues:

Reagan on taxes: supported tax increases when he deemed them necessary, as both Governor and President. Enacted the Tax Equity and Fiscal Responsibility Act of 1982, one of the biggest peacetime tax increases in US history.

Reagan on abortion: as Governor, legalized abortion in California.

Reagan on immigration: enacted the immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986, which granted amnesty to about 3 million illegal aliens.

Reagan was originally was a member of the Democratic Party. In the 1960s, he decided that the Democrats were too far to the left, so he became a Republican instead. But today's Republican party seems like it might be too far to his right.

And it isn't just me asking this question.

After 644 posts? Don't stop now. All I did was ask you for examples.

As a matter of policy we do not terminate memberships unless you are banned for violating the TOS. If you decide to distance yourself from us that is your choice but you are welcome to return at any point. Many of us, including myself, have taken vacations from this site. Perhaps in a month or two what is bothering you now will not seem so large. That is my hope.
