Happy Birthday to Tom Head, still not as old as the oldest dog, but getting close. Happy Bastille Day to all those French, and others, who supported (and still support) regime change.
I really miss Tom's contributions here. As for Bastille Day, everyone should watch the movie Killing Zoe today. Check it out.
Happy birthday, Tom. I'm guessing you are hard at work on your doctorate, but it would be great if you could drop by for a cameo once in a while here at degreeinfo.
Trivia question of the Day! How many prisoners were freed when the french people stormed the Bastille?
Re: Re: Happy birthday Tom Head. Happy Bastille Day. Seven (including, possibly, the Marquis de Sade). Tom Nixon
If memory serves me right, the Marquis de Sade was removed from the Bastille before it fell, because he was taunting the crowds to attack it...
It's kind of interesting because I've seen sources that say both. I'll still go with my 7 though. Tom Nixon
Thanks, folks. (John and Tom N. told me about this post and the followup replies, so it seemed only fair to make a suitable grand entrance...) I see that my last login was 10/4/03; not quite a year (my original guesstimate), but a pretty long time. I think I'll swing by from time to time, but will try to make a point of avoiding political discussions (they're like quicksand for me--as the old blues song goes, "Don't start me to talkin' / I'll tell everything I know..."). So, what have I been doing all this time? Working on the Ph.D. part-time (I expect to finish my thesis in late 2005/early 2006), but mainly writing and editing my fool head off (I'm up to book #18). I seem to have drifted away from distance learning as a topic, because it's been almost three years since my last DL book (though I did an interview for Tom Nixon's high school diplomas book not that long ago). Now I seem to be a humanities guy--a smidgen of American history here, a little religion there, and every now and then some freaky new topic thrown into the mix for fun. (My web site is semi-current, but my resume is much more up to date.) What have you folks been up to? Cheers,
