Just saw this on Coursera and got excited. Not sure if it was mentioned before: https://www.coursera.org/degrees/master-of-science-information-technology-iiithyderabad IMO it's a steal for $3,200. IIITs are top-notch IT schools in India (almost comparable to IITs, but in IT field) setup by the government as centers of excellence. IIIT-Hyderabad is recognized by UGC, approved by AICTE, and accredited by NAAC (Grade A++).
I imagine if a job applicant from India applied for an American IT job, nobody would raise an eyebrow on seeing this degree. Would things be perceived differently if the applicant were American, and had earned this Indian degree? If so, how differently? Just asking. I have no preconceived notion, either way. Your thoughts? And I know these schools have great standing. Maybe not everyone in a hiring role knows that. Again, your thoughts?
I think that there is a marked difference between Indian and non-Indian graduates. Personally, I'd want to stick with higher education institutions on the continents (not necessarily countries) that I have a genuine connection to, mainly Europe and North America. I might still be open to a "personal interest degree" from Asia or Africa, but not any career intent degree.
"I'm Beginning to See the Light." (Duke Ellington, Johnny Hodges, Harry James - lyrics by Don George, 1944. Jazz standard.)
I'd happily get my online degree from any member countries of the European Higher Education Area, which is larger than the European Union (except for Russia and Belarus for obvious reasons) as well as OECD member countries in North America (and cautiously even outside of North America). But I'd rather not venture outside countries on these two lists. So places like Nicaragua (non-OECD country in North America), Gambia and India would be a self-imposed no-go area for me in terms of any serious higher education goals; https://www.ehea.info/page-full_members https://www.oecd.org/about/members-and-partners/
