Thanks for all your advice Kevin. Seems there are too many choices these days. Years ago my choices were very limited. I simply looked at schools within a 50 mile radius.

I'm not looking for a technical degree, at least not an EE. Although I completed my BSEE I've never really used it after I left Bell Labs. I've been in IT since I left Bell Labs, specifically UNIX Systems Administration.

Are you still pursuing your PhD?

    Bruce,

Yes, one class at a time at Northcentral University. About a third of the way through. I am working on a PhD-BA-MIS concentration. Other schools did not have the same class offerings or methodology. NCU fits my needs but has mixed reviews on the forum. I'm a self paced kind of person and NCU has as close to self-paced as you can get course methodology. The dissertation phase is cohort grouped via webcam. It is RA.

Two points to consider: Credit transfer from your Masters to a PhD program and utility.

I transfered in 30 credits from my MBA to NCU.

Nova will let you advance early to their PhD program if you complete your Masters with them. (Information Systems) but require residencies.

I also looked into at least a dozen other programs at the Masters level. A couple of good ones: Troy State University offers a MSM-IS, Florida Tech offers the same. Both have other options.

Not far behind you in age I took up this education journey to get ready for a retirement job in on-line teaching. So far things are working out pretty good.

    Regards,

    Kevin

    Bruboy:

I would suggest to you (and anyone else thinking of a DL program) to take a couple of DL classes before you commit to a full program. I know I wish that I had.

Most of the real programs require a fair amount of math these days so a math refresher course or statistics (also heavily used) would be helpfull.

    This will serve three benefits:

    1) get you familiar with how DL works (and it is different from regular classroom - particularly the isolation and the self motivation to do the work when you are tired from your job, kids, etc.)

    2) will give you the refresher that I can guarantee you will need.

    3) will show the schools you eventually apply to that you can do the work.
