California Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante graduated from Fresno City College last May taking some courses via the Internet. It was revealed tonight on the news he received credit for a class he never took. If this is accurate is his degree fraudulent?

No. All he has to do is say that he repents of unspecified things. Then everything will be OK and all he says will be true.

A large percentage of the participants on this board have received credit for classes they never took. Perhaps Bustmante received credit through testing or portfolio.

I assume that you know that this is not the case, and that you are not just spreading rumors to further your political agenda.

Clarification: He graduated from California State University, Fresno (sometimes called "Fresno State."). He was given credit for a communication class, Speech, based on his life experience (as an assemblyman, Assembly Speaker, etc.). The professor for the class had been present for a couple of Bustamante's speeches.

It seems reasonable to give credit in this instance for skills he already possesses and *can prove* that he has the class knowledge. I'm sure that there is no one on this board that would dispute that.

Whatever I think of Lt. Gob. Bustamante, I certainly don't dispute his degree. Not for an instant.

But if I did, tearstained repentance (without change, of course) would silence any conceivable doubts and reveal any skeptics as sanctimonious Javerts, with ol' C.B. as the melodramatic victim.

So far, though, C.B. hasn't resorted to that hokey tactic; I doubt that he will. After all, sometimes you just gotta spin the wheel, roll the dice, play your hand, and see what happens...

Thank you, Tom, I will email CNN and let them know they misspoke. Oh well, what do you expect from liberals, ha!

Fresno City College is the local community college. Fresno State University is the old name for California State University, Fresno. We have these dueling names because the sports teams still use Fresno State Bulldogs.

Living in Fresno, this is all local news. You might want to find the article at http://www.fresnobee.com. They are certain to have it correct.

Hard to imagine that old chestnut still being true. I tend to view much of the media *now* as moderate to conservative. While in the past, I think it's reasonable to say that it was more liberal. Even CNN ain't what it once was.
