WJT et al. - The advice presented in this thread regarding restricting oneself to APA approved programs is sound. My bonfides include 20+ years as a licensed psychologist and I train students in an APA approved internship program. I find it difficult to imagine that graduating from Fielding, since it is an approved program, would create a problem insofar as licensure is concerned. OTOH, there has always been a pecking order in psychology and graduating from a DL, free-standing school may be in issue in some quarters. Early in my career I encountered some bias as I'm a graduate of a counseling psychology program. Nowadays, the bias is directed toward free-standing programs. Again, I'd be surprised if licensure itself was an issue; my thoughts run more toward winning admission to internship and post-docs.

    Re: Clinical psychopharmacology

The first link led to a dead end but it's clear that I have been uninformed regarding this area of study. Thanks for the info.

During the interview with Fielding I had, the professor mentioned that they have a placement rate at APA internships of 65-70%. She stated that the stats would be higher but many Fielding students are unwilling to relocate for intership and instead choose a non-APA internship. This factor probably skews the data a bit. I was told that once an internship site gets a Fielding student they tend to want more. Most Fielding students are mid-career professionals like myself who have years of previous clinical experience at the masters level. Consequently, they make a good impression at intership sites and can hit the ground running, so to speak. Interestingly, I visited a free standing program last week called Argosy University. It is in Atlanta has a Psy.D. program and they have a 98% APA approved internship placement rate. The other issue you have to consider is cost. Fielding is expensive. If I am accepted I will be forking out a significant chunck of my monthly salary and still getting into debt to pay for the degree. Same thing is true for most free standing Psy.D. programs.

New Mexico State University and the Prescribing Psychologists Register offers an online clinical psychopharmacology program.
The register will allow masters and doctoral level non-licensed learners to enroll in the post doctoral program. After completing the program , they will "bank" your courses until you obtain licensure as psychologist. Once you are granted licensure, the Prescribing Psychologists Register will award you the title, "Fellow of the International College of Prescribing Psychologists (FICPP)".
