    Just had a follow up conversation with Excelsior regarding the specifics of the new NA credit acceptance policy. The following will be the new procedure;

    1) Student must pay $200 appeals fee
    2) Student must complete an "appeal" letter, which Excelsior will make available
    3) Student must provide official NA transcripts
    4) Student must provide NA school catalog with course descriptions for the year(s) attended
    5) NA school must provide signed letter referencing 3 RA schools that have accepted its credits in the past
    6) Package goes before a board for a decision.

It doesn't seem that difficult to me as long as the student (or school0 still has a catalog from the years he/she attended...and as long as the NA school really has had its credits accepted by RA schools in the past.

I have also spoken with an Excelsior rep. It doensn't look like they're going to stick to the policy of "No NA after enrollment" after all.

Great news! I guess, once enrolled, you'd have to get approval from Excelsior for the NA school you intend to earn credits from.

The policy seems fair, All except

NA school must provide a signed letter referencing 3 RA schools that have accepted its credits in the past..

Most policy I have read state

Acceptance of our credits is total up to the reciveing institution.

So I'm not sure how willing a school will be to write a letter referencing other schools that have accepted there credit..

Its not the transfering schools respondibility to prove its course work is equal to the recieving schools respondiblity.. Its the reciveing schools

I agree. It seems silly, but it's a start. I asked Excelsior if it was sufficient to produce letters from 3 RA schools, each stating they would accept the transfer credit from the transferring NA school. No go...in order to be considered, the NA school has to have already had its credits accepted by RA schools. Even though the new policy is odd, and unfair IMO, I doubt it would be that difficult to get the letters. I think it's fair to say that most quality NA schools have had their credits successfully transferred to RA schools.

This situation is amusing. An RA online school concerned enough with reputation that it is reluctant to accept NA/(DETC) credits.

    Excelsior knows...

I would think most nationally accredited schools would be delighted to tell anyone who would listen which regionally accredited schools have accepted their credit.

Agreed. I think it would be great for business.

    DETC

Ask if I could transfer Penn Foster non ACE evaluated Eng Comp course and I was told

"effective July 1, 2006 Excelsior College has developed an appeal process for students to utilize work completed at a non-regionally accredited professional school. The school must be accredited by any one of the agencies classified as "Professional and Specialized Accrediting Organizations". Unfortunately, Penn Foster is accredited by one of the National Institutional Accredited agencies, which we can not accept"

So it looks like Excelsior won't accept DETC credits

    Re: DETC

That seems to contradict what is posted on their web site.

"Excelsior College accepts credit from accredited degree-granting institutions in the United States. These institutions must be approved by the U.S. Department of Education and hold either professional or national accreditation, as verified by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)."

    https://www.excelsior.edu/portal/page?_pageid=57,72767&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL

Notice it says either professional or national accreditation. I think I would ask to talk to someone else.

the person who sent me that reply was a senior acdemic adivisor..

    I replied with ...

    Thanks,

Unfortunely the course that I'm looking to transfer hasn't been evaluated by ACE.

Just out curiosity do you have a list of "Professional and Specialized Accrediting Organizations" that EC will now accept/allow students to appeal for. I just find it strange the DETC would be left off that list as it is a national accediting body recognized by (CHEA) Council for Higher Education Accreditation. Your Admision page states

"Excelsior College accepts credit from accredited degree-granting institutions in the United States. These institutions must be approved by the U.S. Department of Education and hold either professional or national accreditation, as verified by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA)"

Generally speaking, it doesn't seem like Excelsior has done a very good job implementing this policy, does it?

I think they all have "senior" in their title. I have had my fair share of battles with EC. You may want to speak with the Dean of Admissions or Academic Affairs, I forget exactly what title they go by.

I wish EC policy was clearer. I need three credits in written english and I would like to finish it before October.

    My option are

1> The EC college writing exam (week in english and I'm worried about taking the exam)

2> Penn Foster English Comp (Looks like they won't accepted this but if they did it would be perfect for me as I've taken course from them in pass and know what to except. I Could finish it in about 6-8 weeks and it would the least expensive option)

3> Online English course from an RA school more than likely EC (won't be able to finish by Oct)

4> a in the seat English course from a local CC (won't be able to finish by Oct plus the whole class schd thing wouldn't work for me do my employment and family respondablities. Thats why I went DL)

Unfortunately English Comp is not ACE evaluated at Penn Foster or there would be no problem at all with EC accepting it without the whole special appeals process. LSU offers english courses for less than typical community college courses. You can work at your own pace and might be able to finish quickly if you appply yourself. Liberty University offers 8 week accelerated courses but you're going to pay for it.

Isn't Penn Foster DETC? What about Tech Math 1??????

They only accept Penn Foster courses that have been evaluted by ACE for college credit...

Tech Math 1 has been evaluated by ACE you'll have no problem transfeing it...

They won't accept Penn Fosters English Comp as it hasn't been evaluated by ACE

Just out of curiosity I sent Admissions and records an email regarding this new NA transfer policy. There seems to be conflicting answers, which is not uncommon when a policy is brand new.

I will post the their response when I receive it.
