I have a buddy that suggested this as well. He even said that some local volunteer fire departments put on their own EMT-B programs as well.

Thanks for this advice. I spoke with her this afternoon and she is definitely motivated to do this. When everything kind of went sideways, she was in her first semester of clinicals in nursing. She has all of the pre-reqs for that type of work, but now simply doesn't have the time for traditional schooling. I'm hoping that changes, but for now she needs options and DL might be her ticket back into this field.

Thanks! In reading a god bit last night, I see the hour breakdowns of each transition (EMT-B-> Paramedic, etc.) and I believe the biggest hurdle is finding a legit program. The ride-alongs and hands on time will be something I can also help her set up. This school in Ohio looks really cool and legit, but it's not cheap either ($2,995). That price includes all of the equipment and lodging/meals as well.

I feel confident that she's one step closer now. Thanks again and keep the suggestions coming! It's appreciated.

The State of Alabama no longer recognizes the EMT-B; you are either an EMT-Basic or a Para-Medic. Some fought to keep the "B" while others were happy to see it go.

Just a quick update, she's calling the local volunteer fire department to see if they hold EMT-Basic courses at their facility. If that's a no-go, she's going to contact the NREMT and state EMS licensing to make sure DL is an option. She's very excited about this field and I hope it all works out. I will update the thread after I hear back from her on the NREMT. That might help others looking into DL programs.
