Speaking about the acceptance rate, it seems I have no chance. All 11 selected candidates for 2009 have more than 25 years of working experience. Some of them have Ph.D degree...hmmmm..

Funny you mentioned that, because it's a little after 2am in Boston right now, I'm in my pajamas, and I just got done reviewing and responding to the class discussions of the courses I'm teaching.

    And, I don't even have a doctorate! :D

I'd like to know what the people with an existing PhD plan on doing with this degree.

    Here you go...

"Dan Spethmann, Ph.D. has more than 30 years of experience in natural resource management. Most recently, he was Manager of Investment Programs for New Forests, Inc. where he helped to raise and place institutional and private capital into ecosystem markets. Prior to this, he participated in the Non Timber Resources Development effort at Temple-Inland, Inc. where he worked to develop stream and wetlands mitigation instruments, working forest conservation easements, and endangered species credit programs. He was Founder and President of Strategic Controls Corporation which provided supervisory control and data acquisition systems for the natural gas industry. He also served as Project Manager at Moncon, Inc. where he provided controls systems for hydroelectric facilities as well as the municipal water and wastewater industries. He holds a PhD in Forest Economics from Stephen F. Austin State University, an MS in Forestry from the University of Wisconsin Madison, and a BS in Biology from the University of Wisconsin. He is an adjunct faculty member at Stephen F. Austin State University. His DLS research is intended to focus on the stewardship of natural resources and developing a balance of methods to capture the range of guiding values from anthropocentric to existential, from the perspective of current and future generations."

Well, I think I'll stick with Georgetown University's D.LS for now. Unless I they don't accept me...then bounce for plan B.

"The Doctor of Liberal Studies degree (D.L.S.) is the first doctorate degree in Liberal Studies in the United States and Canada. Georgetown University in Washington, D.C was the first university in the world to offer the Doctorate in Liberal Studies degree. The Doctor of Liberal Studies degree is interdisciplinary in nature. Rather than pursue academic grounding and theoretical research in a specific discipline in order to create new knowledge, D.L.S. students synthesize existing knowledge from multiple disciplines in new and creative ways.1 The focus in this doctorate is upon individual students and their research area as described in their application. The Doctoral Thesis itself will synthesize and reconfigure existing knowledge in new ways, providing a substantive reinterpretation of the interaction of disciplines"

Are there any Doctorate of Liberal Studies, Humanities or Interdisciplinary Studies out there that are DL, besides Union? I would think that maybe England, Australia or South Africa have some. Does anyone know of any particular programs?

    Thanks!
