Several programs I ran across while doing research: University of Georgia (MEd & Pharm.D) http://www.uga.edu.edu/de/bottom.html Oklahoma State University (MBA & Various Engineering) http://ueied.ue.okstate.edu/distancelearning.htm University of Oregon (MS in Applied Information Management) http://aim.uoregon.edu
Thank you for this. I hope and trust the Lords of DegreeInfo take note of helpful posts like this -- since they are the ones whom my daughter and I contracted to update the data base for the 15th edition -- and whoever does the 16th edition (not Mariah, not me) would be well advised to contract with them again.
I hope that you aren't going to be doing the McArthur thing and be fading away. For one thing, I don't think that you are a soldier, and for another, I really don't think that you are old.
A few more: Lewis-Clark State College: BA in Interdisciplinary Studies http://www.lcsc.edu/dl/degrees.htm University of Toledo: (In the process of gaining NCA approval for the following DL Programs): AS in Business Management Technologies AS in Marketing Sales Technologies BA in Liberal Studies BS in Computer Science and Engineering Technology BS in Health Information Management MLS in Liberal Studies MS in Engineering. http://www.dl.utoledo.edu/HTML/degreeprograms.htm And the DL programs just keep coming. It will be interesting to see the statistics on DL vs Trad., and the average age of college graduates ten years from now.
Please *do* keep these coming... we'll be adding them to the DegreeFinder database, which will be the base for any future publications, whether Bears' Guides or otherwise
Come now, John. It will not have the same "punch" if you don't do the guide. Bears' Guide is the standard! Consider the alternatives: Dayson's Guide to Quickie Ordination Chip's Guide to Administrative Forums Levicoff's Guide to 18 Wheeling Gus' Guide to Googling North's Guide to Theological Degrees: The Good, Bad & Ugly Grover's Guide to Liverpool Accreditation Head's Guide to Liberal Socio-Political Movements Nawww, if it isn't Bears' Guide, it just isn't the real thing!
But don't tell Dr. Bear about these programs. He just might add them to his next edition. Liberal Socio-Political Movements. Good topic for a dissertation.
Russell: Nawww, if it isn't Bears' Guide, it just isn't the real thing! John: There will still be a Bears' Guide, if Ten Speed wants it -- they apparently own the rights to the name Bears' Guide. Indeed, Tom Nixon's new book is called Bears' Guide to Earning High School Degrees, even though Mariah and I had nothing to do with it. And Mariah and I are free to do what we wish for any other publisher, should the wish and opportunity arise.
University of Hull (England) MEd in eLearning http://www.hull.ac.uk/elearning/masters/coursecontent/index.html
Lancaster University: MA Creative Writing (1 week residency) http://www.lancs.ac.uk/depts/cw/distance.htm I believe someone on this forum has mentioned it before, but Lancaster also offers a MA in environmental philosophy with no residency.
I also noticed, if I recall correctly, that Indiana University of PA had a few masters programs in English available via summer residency that were not listed in Bear's guide. JB lists the PhD program in Literature and Criticism only. After having them send me information, including the class schedules, it appeared that the only MA in English that could be accomplished strictly with summer residency (among the four options given: ESL, etc.) would be the MA in Literature. Since I was looking for a "teaching credential," this didn't suffice as well as some other options I had. Chris
The University of Wales-Lampeter's Philosophy Department is now offering the following in non-residency DL programs: MA in Ethics of Life and Death MA in European Philosophy MA in Teaching Philosophy at A Level MA in Business Ethics MA in Nature MA in Reflective Knowledge Management MA in Medical Ethics http://www.lamp.ac.uk/philosophy/postgrad.html
In addition to my last post Wales-Lampeter is in the process of making all of their taught MA's in History available as DL programs. I wish some of the U.S. schools would look at Wales for an example. A small, humanities based university, is able to maintain its original function by allowing students from around the world to participate. With American universities evolving into corporate training centers, maybe a few philosophy and classics departments could save themselves by DL.
University of LaVerne (California) BS in Organizational Management BS in Public Administration With an MBA coming soon. http://www.ulv.edu/distancelearning
