Here is the link to the TECEP's that you can study and test out of as opposed to taking classes elsewhere. I took and passed Business Policy (easy) and Operations Management (tough). If you are an enrolled student, then these 3 credit tests will cost you $240. As you can see there are more than enough business area courses to test out of.

Sorry for getting off topic, but I took some tests from TESC, including TECEPS. When I had to take a final exam, I had to select a Proctor. I was able to use my Education Officer since I was on active duty. I gave the name and contact info for the Proctor to TESC, and they contacted him. He filled out the paperwork, I had to coordinate when I would take the test and have it sent to him.

Sorry I'm not more specific, I only had to take final exams for 4 of my classes from TESC.

My TESC transcript contained five classes labeled as 300 level and none at the 400 level.

To call two of them upper level is completely ridiculous - the Principles of Management and Introduction to Marketing CLEP exams. I barely studied at all. The other three, DSST exams on the Vietnam War, the Middle East, and the Soviet Union were moderately difficult. I'd say the content could pass as upper level at a decent number of schools.

I was admitted to a nationally ranked, fairly prestigious business school with leveling requirements due to the lack of a business undergraduate degree, not because I did not have enough upper level classes. I was also admitted to the Liberty University MBA and Golden Gate University, both of which are essentially one step above open admissions. You can see from my signature where I attended.

I took a course in Electronic Engineering Technology at CREI
(Capital Radio Engineering Institute) while in the Navy. The Institute was accredited by DETC.

Has any one been able to transfer any credits to TESC or any other college?

They have moved all of their records and I am trying to find them. Last I heard, the records are in Ohio.

With 110 credit hours completed plus another 60 credit hours from an associate degree it might make sense to earn a bachelor degree based on your existing credit hour distribution; this could be liberal studies or individual studies concentrations or business, etc. Depending upon the level of courses already completed (freshman, sophomore, junior, senior) any of Charter Oak State College, Excelsior College, or Thomas Edison State College would meet your goals of earning an undergraduate degree.

Have you accessed your SMART transcript to determine what college credit you are due for your Navy training and experience?

    Good luck!

  7. I second the thought about checking http://www.bain4weeks.com for some ideas. With your level of experience, assuming it's well-rounded (Finance, Accounting, Marketing, Operations, etc) you should be able to test out of the remaining 30 credits. Lawrie's site is excellent but please note that it's also out of date with respect to the actual degree plan and exams to take - you will need to find replacements.

It's been a few years since I've done this so many of the Excelsior exams have likely been retired in favor of courses. However, if ones such as Labor Relations and HR (both Upper Level) are still available they are easy to study for and inexpensive compared to taking a class. The rest can be TECEP exams (I also agree that Operations Management was hard!).

The benefit of getting a BS in Business from Excelsior is that if/when you apply to a MBA program you will likely not have to take any pre-requisite leveling courses which reduces your timeframe as well as $$$.

For example, one inexpensive program for a MBA, Cal State Dominguez Hills, requires bridge courses if you haven't already taken them: Info Systems, Accounting, Economics, Finance, Marketing, Management, Law, Operations and Statistics. All are part of the BS Business curriculum at Excelsior.

I completed my degree solely through exams and I estimate the total cost for 120 credits and books to be around $5-6K. You could probably finish up for under $2K, especially if you buy used books.

Anyone know of CREI, Capital Radio Engineering Institute? Last location was in Washington DC.

    Can these credits transfer?

    Thanks, Jim

Can I apply to TESC and send in my transcripts for review.

Do they accept training certificates from the Navy and Air Force?
Example...TQM 36 Hours (Air Force), Blue Print Reading 40 hours (Navy).

How about other training..Sports... Soccer Coach Training (2 Day Course)?

    Thanks, Jim

I have 3 semester units in golf that Excelsior would not accept.

Here are a couple of places to look

If anything is ACE approved it will be accepted by the Big 3, do some searches, there are hundreds of certifications that qualify

    Military specific

    http://www.militaryguides.acenet.edu/

ACE Credits in general (national guide) search by organization then course

I suggest you look at the Liberal Arts degree plans at TESC and Excelsior. You may find that you have met most, may even all of your core requirements. If so, you can use FEMA credit to fill in the remainder. FEMA courses are free and most courses can be done in an evening. TESC will accept the credits without any charge. Excelsior will accept them also, but you'll first have to get them transcripted at Frederick Community College at a cost of $60 per credit. TESC will accept 25 hours. I don't know how many Excelsior will accept, but it's probably similar.
