A reader asked for my advice on whether to take an online short course in financial management from Peloton, with which I was not familiar. It seems to have been established about six months ago by David Lady, formerly president of Aspen University and at times a regular here. pelotoni.com Because of Dr. Lady's reputation and credentials, I'm not questioning the integrity of this institution in any way . . . but there are a few things that might have raised a red flag in other contexts. The main picture on the website is captioned, "Train alongside industry peers," and depicts four people. The identical photograph appears on the website of the University of South Australia: Program testimonials The next photo shows a fairly large office. It is a photo that is sold for 75 euros by a stock photo service: interiors of an office . Durango Drive, Las Vegas, Nevada 89113 lists 60 tenants, but not Peloton. However "Suite 111" is the address for Peloton, as well as an engineering firm, a business consulting firm, and a title company, suggesting it might be an 'executive suite' sort of place. If Dr. Lady is still following this forum, perhaps he can tell us about his new venture.
Suite 111 is also listed as the Las Vegas office of the International Association of Information Technology Asset Managers (IAITAM), a for-profit association based in Ohio. Peloton seems to be a provider of online training courses in conjunction with IAITAM; the relationship is acknowledged at the IAITAM home page. Peloton courses are apparently non-credit and non-degree (although a certificate is available). IAITAM does offer an MS degree in conjunction with Taft University, which is DETC-accredited.
I am typing from my iPad at the IAITAM conference in Palm Springs, so forgive any typos, I can post more later if necessary. Abner sent me this link to reply to... You can only sign up for peloton courses through the iaitam website, these courses cover the ITAM best practice library, they are for IT professionals working within an ITAM program in a large company... This is corporate training no degree stuff. Office in LV is iaitam office, they own peloton, I think if you google earth it you can see their signage. I am there about a week a month, actually bought a villa in Vegas to stay at (good deal, Vegas real estate right now, btw)... Any other questions..? Btw, any degree info folks, if you are in CA land and want to come to the conferences this week let me know and we can talk in person, info on iaitam website... DEL
Dr. Bear, I talked to some of the folks here, and if you want to coordinate a visit one of the weeks we are all there this year I'd be happy to walk you around the office, introduce you to some of the key players, and show you the training. It is a lot of corporate IT videos with me talking in them, but so far they are very popular within the ITAM field. Pop me an email anytime at [email protected]. DEL
I notice, from LinkedIn, that after 11 months as President/CIO of Peloton, Dr. Lady appears to have moved on.
