Let's highlight Columbia Southern University as a thread discussion. I completed my BSBA at CSU back in January 2003 and just completed my MBA their.

I attended the graduation ceremony in Alabama and let me say the CSU facility is top notch. They pride themselves in professionalism and the staff, faculty and administrators are great people.

I believe CSU has become one of the top DETC schools out there. CSU has taken the necessary steps to form articulation agreements with several "Bricks & Mortar" schools (UNA, UWA, FSU) and have also become academic partners with companies like Delta Airlines, Boeing and Dept. of Homeland Security, just to name a few.

CSU has started the organization of the alumni association. If you're a graduate from CSU I encourage you to become a part of the alumni. We had our first alumni meeting and elected officers. You're going to start to see many great changes to the alumni website in the near future.

I'm sure it's a typo, but if this is going to be a posting that will attract attention to CSU, you will want to type "there" correctly.

This post goes beyond informing and ends up in persuading. That would be fine, except for M. Gauthier's role. That makes it advertising...and inappropriate.

(Hard to argue with his/her conclusions, though. CSU has created some unique relationships.)

Either that or Chip needs to create a "Shameless Promoting" forum.

And I had the exact same thought, John, about the "their" thing.

As for you spelling police out there, I do apologize for the typo.

This post was not about "shameless promoting." It was about being proud of your school and its accomplishments and to connect with CSU alumni.

I do have to give CSU a kudo here because they have come a long way from their beginnings. They have forged some nice deals with RA schools and now are going to offer a doctorate. Do other DETC schools have such deals with RA schools?

Someone posted that CSU had a deal with Northcentral, too. Not sure what that one is but I know I read it on the forum.

Has anyone on the forum received a master's from CSU and been accepted to a regular brick and mortar doctorate program? Or a bachelor's from CSU and been accepted into a B&M master's?

It wasn't so much that the "spelling police" were raggin' on ya'. People make typos and spelling mistakes all the time here and no one says anything. You got chided about it, I think, because there you were, talking about what a great degree you got, and you had a common, rookie spelling (actually, a usage) mistake in only your second sentence that someone with a great degree should not make... at least not if he's talkin' about his great degree. It's an irony sort of thing, mostly. No big deal.

But it was written like a promotion that seemed more appropriate to the "Distance Learning Showcase" over in another forum that shall remain nameless (not so much 'cause I don't actually want to name it, but because its owner won't let any of its members mention DegreeInfo by name, so I just thought I'd return the favor).

Look... I dunno about everyone else, but I was just messin' widcha. It's no big deal. I'm glad you're happy with your school; and I hope you connect with other alums.

Congratulations are in order, Mr. Gautier!

Not really, though. I read posts like Mr. Gauthier's on this forum all of the time. He is a recent graduate who is proud of his school and his accomplishment. The only ‘advertising’ I saw was a request for other CSU graduates to join the alumni association. Maybe I missed something?

If Mr. Gauthier had just graduated from one of the medium three, I doubt he would have taken any heat. Rather, people would be lining up with the "congrats", "well done", and "welcome to the MBA club" type comments. Just my opinion.

I have checked out their catalog and website. This school seems to have all the right connections. Very few DETC schools seem to have the allegiance/articulation agreements this school has.

Good job! congrats on your MBA

Of course, I didn't refer to it as "shameless promoting"; that was someone else. But I did start the criticism, and with good reason. When you have such a strong connection with a school, it is irresponsible to make such grand conclusions about its quality. It is one thing for a graduate to make those statements, but you're connected to the school, and that makes it incumbent upon you to show more restraint.

"Shameless"? No. "Promoting"? Certainly. And inappropriately.

Re: Congratulations are in order, Mr. Gautier!

It has nothing to do with the school. It has everything to do with his connection to it. He's not merely a graduate, he represents the Alumni association. That doesn't mean he can't post, but extolling his school in the manner he did becomes advertising when done by someone in his position. Context is relevant here.

NB: Your comment about the "medium three" is petty. They're called the "Big Three" only because they're so similar, and they meet so many people's needs.

Gosh, has the Tedmeister ever made any posts that belong over in "Shameless Promoting"?

Again; not really, though. I just didn't want to be accused of "shameless promoting", which according to you, is quite inappropriate. And, I strive to please the high and mighty Dr. Douglas, Judge of all those who post here at DI. ;)

Comments like these crack me up. You're the one who made the snide comment; I just called you on it. And "shameless promoting" wasn't my term, jerkoff. Get it right.

(No more pulling punches. Clowns like this are going to get it with both barrels.)

    Getting personal

This post speaks for itself. You're a real class act!

No more pulling punches? I'm scared!

I have plenty of names for you also Rich, but I am above that. Calling someone a 'clown' or a 'jerk off' is far more "inappropriate" than Mr. Gauthier's post could ever hope to be.

Are you sure that you want to get personal? You'd better think real hard before you start that nonsense with me.

Oh, and I'm sorry. You said his post was inappropriate adverstising, not shameless promotion. Close enough.
