Concerning California College for Health Sciences, this is from the DETC web site:

Never heard of Independence Univeristy. Cannot find it in Google.

Info is here under Name Change:

    http://www.detc.org/theaccrediting.html

Don't like the name, sounds millish.

    Jimmy: "Sounds like a mill."

John: Well it was. Twice. A major phony of that name operated in the 1950s, and there was another in the 1980s.

This one is clearly neither of those. My Google search found two officers of Independence University who attended anEduCause (the people who bungle -- I mean regulate -- the "edu" suffix) last fall. One listed a Salt Lake City phone number; the other didn't.

    Thank you, Dr. Bear.

I have emailed one of the persons you found and inquired about the CCHS-Independence Univ. connection.

I see also that College of Humanities and Sciences has changed its name to College of the Humanities and Sciences Harrison Middleton University.

    DL schools with stupid names...

I don't like the name choice either. I can’t figure out why they feel the need to make the change at all. I realize that their HQ is now in UT, but I think they still have a San Diego location (www.cc-sd.edu). Plus, they are a DL school and have been known as CCHS for decades.

In any case, what happens to graduates when a school changes names? Do they get new transcripts and a new degree? Or, do they have to explain the name change (in addition to maybe having to explain distance education) every time they apply for jobs, graduate admissions, etc.?

At this point, they might as well just go for the gold, and change their name to Intercontinental Independence University International. :(

Yea, as former Governor Pierre "Pete" DuPont (Delaware) said about the then state of social security during a 1988 GOP presidential debate, "Dumb, just dumb!"

I think the site was down for a while, but it seems to be working now. It looks almost exactly like www.stevenshenager.edu and www.collegeamerica.edu

    Jimmy,

I just did a cursory review of CCHS, I was surprsied to see that it would cost $16,200 for a Master's degree. This is a very expensive institution of higher education. Wow!!!! Thank you.

Yes, CCHS is now very expensive for a distance learning school. The idea of DL is to offer affordable education. Many RA residential schools are cheaper than CCHS.

My M.S. degree cost $3900. The new ownership and other changes have have all but made education for many unaffordable.

    Valpo???

Who was at Valpo? I stayed with friends in IN and MO for a while back in the mid-90's, and I loved both states. In fact, I am considering moving back when I am done school here on the east coast. I am not sure what Valpo has to do with CCHS, though.

    Re: Valpo???

Now, now, Busho4. Be careful, here. You're obviously having a little trouble keeping-up with whom you've told what... and when. Perhaps the old maxim, "What a tangled web we weave, when we practice to deceive," is applicable... no?

Do you not remember that you once had "Valparaiso, Indiana" in your "Location:" field in your profile here; and that it displayed in every one of your posts, over on the left, below your username?

And do you not remember that the very first PM I ever sent you however long ago opened with me writing to you something to the effect of, "Valpo! Hey... dem's part of my ol' stompin' grounds," which, of course, is the whole reason I even noticed it in your posts in the first place. And then whatever private communications we had back then went from there.

So, then... what's up with you on this, Busho4?

Why lie... either then, or now?

    I don't appreciate being called a liar....

I never once (ever ever ever, not ever) told anyone I went to Valpo. You may have drawn that conclusion, but that's not my fault.

I did live in IN and MO in the 1990s. Go check and re-check my response to your PM. I know for a fact that I did not tell you that I went to Valpo. I go to school on the east coast.

You never answered my questions, though. Are you a lawyer? Or, in law school? Were you ever a law student?

    Well, yes and no. :)

It should be that way since already established DL programs or DL-only schools have very little overhead costs. It also should be that way to keep accredited higher education truly accessible for all, especially since at least some form of post-secondary education is required for most decent employment. But while there are still affordable DL programs, there are many more that are quite pricey and it's not just the for-profits like UoP. Checked out UMUC's tuition lately?

    lumen gentium?

    Come now, Casey.

I also remember quite clearly that you put Valparaiso, Indiana as your location. Since I have gone to do reseach regularly at Valparaiso University and VU Law School, I can recall wondering "Dumnezeu, is that Busho4? Or that guy?" In fact, I recall one young fellow at the Law School speaking so strongly to his fellow-students in favour of Mr Bush that I almost asked if it were you! See, I don't recall whether you ever said you were a student at Valpo or not, or whether you simply gave it as your location. But you quite definitely did the one, the other, or both.

Given your fervour as a Catholic, perhaps you don't care to be associated with Valpo (the university), which is run by the least conservative element in the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. I can understand that. I really can. I really really can. But your denials that you ever identified yourself with Valparaiso (whether the town or the school or both) just strike me as very strange indeed.

For the sake of your credibility--which does matter on this board--why deny your DI Valparaiso references tout court?
