My own opinion is that the perception is getting increasingly negative, in large part due to the accredited institutions (AIU, Phoenix, Devry, Kaplan, Kennedy-Western) that are advertised by aggressive email spam. People are irritated by the spam. And the negative perception is only enhanced when someone actually looks at the advertised programs, many of which deliberately present themselves as quick'n'easy.

(Oh yeah, one of the institutions I listed above is not accredited. But how many people can tell the difference?)

Personally, I have not received one criticism over my decision to pursue dl from my current employer or anyone in the agency that I work for. I have spoken to several other employers and they have positive views over dl as a "growing field and gaining recognition".
From another employer, he said the he first reviews the amount of experience, and then the level of education of a person.

Again, this is my own personal experience.
I have accepted the limitations that dl might have as of now, but so far haven't seen so many of the prejudice that I see posted in this forum.

I am getting the perception that many employers are more concerned with degree mills and bogus credentials, and obviously, might inquire as to the source of your dl degree.

One thing I noticed about schools like Capella is that they try to train their students to meet current industry & employer's demands. And thus, are working very closely with many Fortune 500 companies to satisfy this demand.

Nevertheless, dl is the wave of the future, and with so many top tier universities offering online degrees, I think that this stigma in some settings will diminish.

At first, I thought the inimitable Dr. Pecker had flipped his lid. Then, as I continued reading, I realized that he was simply pulling our collective leg. ;)

    Kennedy-Western is unaccredited.

    Psychology

Other than the MBA that Capella offers, has anyone had any experience with Capella's MS in Psychology program? positive or negative?

    Psychology at Capella!

Though I am a Ph.D. student in the School of Psychology, I imagine that there are similarities to the MS program in terms of delivery and rigor, etc.

I really like the format of the courses. You have to do two papers/articles with citations per week per course and also interact and respond at least once to two other articles/papers during that week. That would make a minimum of 4 postings.
Your papers need to be about 1-1/2 pages in length minimum not including citations. This is just my general observation. Also, each course requires a major paper at the end (12-25 pages excluding references, depending on the professor). You'll figure that you will write a total of 20 mini-papers and 1 big one per course. You will also have to do your weekly readings.

I recommend Capella. I believe that they bend over backward to design their systems to make your academic life as smooth as possible so that you can focus on learning. They have great staff, great response times, great classes, great degree programs, and great plans for expansion for the future (like CACREP and APA accreditation, which is already being worked on). They currently have about 7,000 students. They also have one of the most generous credit transfer policies I've seen anywhere (better than Walden, Saybrook, Fielding, or Union).

Maybe contact the school to get e-mails of Masters level students to ask them for their opinions.

    Hope this helps.
