Not only did I think that the proposal for degree that they offered was a joke, but the counselor was very shady. Shady could be an understatement. I had to ask her 5 different ways if the school was accredited, she kept talking in circles. It was highly annoying. Now they keep sending me junk mail despite my requests to be removed from their mailing list...

Every piece of literature from CCU says they are unaccredited. Ain't exactly a secret.

Unfortunately your description of the way CCU operates would not be an experience shared by anyone else. You must have the wrong school.

At CCU, voila and you get nothing. Write an essay and you get a degree - what a crock of crap.

For my MBA program, I got 2 exemptions out of 7 possible. I am completing courses at the rate of 1 every 2 months and have to work at it.

One thing I haven't had to do yet is write an essay.

    Re: more questions / comments.

All questions are multiple choice, no essays. You can order the book seperate from the exam. I ordered the test and when I got it I ordered the book because you rent the book for 90 days so I wanted to make sure I had the test in hand when I started to read the book.

The questions are listed by chapter. You know what chapter all the questions are from but the questions within the chapter are not all in order in which they are found in the book. If questions 1-8 are in chapter one, they might be in the order of question 7 is from page 2, question 3 is from page 5, question 4 is from page 11, etc...

    The 200 question question-
    test one = 25 questions, test two = 25 questions, midterm = 50 questions, test three = 25, four = 25, final = 50.

Re: Do you think CCU will receive DETC Accreditation

I think they have an excellent chance of getting DETC.

First, I have never written and essay for CCU. When I was in the BS program, I had the chance to receive credit for a business communications class based on work experience. I had to document my experience to prove I had the knowledge equal to the class. I thought is was a given that I would get the credit as soon as I handed in the proof. I turned in some documents and it was rejected...hardly a degree mill.

The school never claims to be accredited and they are quick to point that out. After I finished the BS and MBA program, I called them and requested info about the MEd program. They mailed it to me and followed up with two letters within about 4 months. I would not consider that junk mail.

I find your statement hard to believe because...well you don't know what you are talking about when you make comments like, "writing an essay and viola, you have a degree".

The statement about writing an essay and getting a degree is simply not true. That makes the rest of the information provided in these posts rather suspect.

There aren't many--if any--posts on this board ascribing these behaviors to CCU. It would seem out of character for the school.

I requested a catalog two years ago. I received two follow-up letters in the subsequent months, then never heard from them again. But I still get invitations from Nova Southeastern four years after I gave them a call. I consider neither of these scenarios to be a problem.

I've been reading threads here for a while and I think I am sometimes warped that I acutally enjoy watching people go back and fourth on these subjects. My original post stated I didn't want to get into a debate about CCU but it's like asking your kids not to get dirty while playing in the mud......you know it's going to happen.

Thanks to all who posted and I'll use the good information. If anyone else has positives about CCU that would benifit in making my decision it would be welcome:)

From the above posts, it appears CCU has changed their testing paradigm somewhat. When I attended there some years back, essays were required in a number of courses in addition to the multiple choice questions. The student was required to demonstrate and describe process and reasoning. For instance, I remember having to demonstrate the physical calculations that went into a linear regression that supported some of the answers in the multiple choice component.

In any event, I sense a good deal of positive interest in CCU's bid for accreditation. I also think they will be one of the first schools to reinstate their doctoral programs when/if DETC is permitted to expand its charter around 2006.
