Is it libelous content that might land one in trouble? Since this is an open media that has no restrictions on the probablility of defaming substance being posted. Moderators, senior members, kibitzers, Steve Forrester or any of the wise men from this forum please advice. For instance there is this xyz university having its physical location at 123 anyplace suite lower gehenna Hades 12345-6789, can I post a comment stating this university is a degree mill as they are blah blah blah.... Would that invite trouble?
Defamation laws differ significantly depending on country. It can differ significantly depending on person. For example, an expert in the field might have to be more careful what they say because people are going to have a tendency to believe them more. It can be very significant how the statement is phrased.
Oh so I was right! It may be harmful to discuss about universities and comment about its class. But then the nature of this forum in itself is where people obtain ideas about universities and colleges. So I smell a paradox somewhere in between these lines.
Re: Oh so I was right! Not really; paradox implies an irresolvable quandary. Offer documented proof of States not allowing usage of the questionable degree, previous lawsuits or judgments, or lack of accreditation and the "bill of sale" for the $200 PhD, and you're on pretty solid ground when calling an institution a degree mill (particularly on a discussion board....this isn't the Supreme Court). Are you aiming for an predetermined answer such as "We shouldn't be talking about this”?. Dave
You're right, as long as it's stated as opinion. The OP seems to be more concerned with portraying information as "fact".
