Yes I noticed the time limit also. Thats a negative side. However the cost is very reasonable and the number of courses that are needed are less with the flexibility to take them in any order. Dont know how difficult are the exams and how much time per week I need to put in. I was looking at their BSc Information Systems and Management Degree.

BTW, does anyone has any URL to get more info on Excelsior exam syllabus and a sample test for any course at UL or LL ?

    Thanks everyone...

I earned a DL BSCIS degree from Excelsior College and was accepted into the residential Master's of Computer Science program at University of Illinois (ranked #5 in computer science in US News's latest graduate school survey).

I didn't mean to apply to the residential program (and they switched me over to the DL program without hassle), but I was accepted into the residential program so it's definitely possible.

This quote is also from Excelsior:

Q: Does Excelsior College offer technology courses?
A: No. We do not offer any courses. We are an assessment institution, meaning that we accept credit toward degree requirements based on transfer credit, proficiency exams, official assessments, and corporate training courses and military courses

    Mark,

My above quote was from an email that I got from Excelsior day before yesterday...

Are you under the impression that your quote contradicts mine? It doesn't.

    Athabasca U

    Hi,

    >>RamonaQ, can I take individual courses from Athabasca (AU) >>and use them for credit towards degree ?

Yes, definately. You can apply online for about $50 and then take any course listed in their catalogue (upper year courses have some prerequistes). Athabasca has an open admission policy. I'd recommend taking one computer science course as a non-program student to see if you like it.

I took six courses from AU and transferred them to my resident computer science degree @ Queen's University (Kingston).

You can also challenge credits at Athabasca. Basically, you write an exam and receive credit for the course without actually taking it. I did my 6 courses in the traditional way, but I have friends who have challenged exams.

    Regular Athabasca exams are reasonable!

Athabasca University has a DL Masters in Informational Technology -- so I find their computer science courses prepare you for further study.

How much are courses from the UofL?

    Re: Athabasca U

Thats good if I can take up a course before actually enrolling on a program. Do they have different courses for undergrad and postgrad level ? I will look at their CS courses.

I am not sure you can take individual courses at UoL. You will have to enrol on their program and each course costs £172 thereafter. Take a look at www.londonexternal.ac.uk.

    More Athabasca COMP stuff !

    Hi,

    >>Thats good if I can take up a course before actually enrolling >>on a program. Do they have different courses for undergrad >>and postgrad level ? I will look at their CS courses.

I haven't taken graduate level COMP courses from Athabasca, but I know that graduate courses are seperate from their undergraudate courses. The only course I have looked at is their graduate Computer Graphics and it is a continuation of their undergraduate graphics course.

    Check out:
    http://www.athabascau.ca/html/courses/list1.htm#comp

for a list of Athabasca's computer science courses. You can actually view part of the course materials online and even a sample practice exam for some courses.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks,
    Ramona
