Besides Q534, 118, 318 are any NFA classes worth anything to TESC/their credit bank?

It seems these classes are much the same as the FEMA credits but besides the three listed in the title of my question I have been unable to confirm or deny their credit-worthiness as far as TESC (or anybody else) is concerned. I think I would have heard about it if they were but I want to confirm that the non-ace classes have not been evaluated favorably by TESC.

Thanks to anybody who is aware of anything concerning this issue!

Additionally anybody who knows how much the credit bank costs and or has an informative page on the TESC site to direct me to would be awesome.

TESC gave me credit for Q118, Q318 and Q534. ACE rates Q118 and Q318 for credit. I know of no other National Fire Academy Independent Study Courses that can be used to gain college credit.

Oh wow, you are my online hero mr. gates. I have read a novel's worth of material on this and other forums posted by you. I'm amazed you are still active here and so quick to respond. Thank you for the clarification. $400 bucks is nothing to get over a year's worth of credit on a RA transcript.

On a separate note, Do you have access to an up-to-date list of FEMA classes TESC takes for credit (not for a degree from that particular institution). I would like to make sure I've taken all the potentially useful FEMA courses. I've seen your prior list but I believe it was dated ('06 I believe).

If it would be more appropriate to post a new thread I will do that.

Again thank you for all the information this and other information that has been SO helpful. I'm truly grateful.

Search at this link using %EDM and you will find descriptions that match the FEMA Independent Study courses. Most are 1 s.h. course. You need to match by FEMA IS course title, rather than FEMA IS course number to see which they will accept. FEMA IS course numbers are not in the online catalog. I do not think they have updated the online catalog in awhile so the list below is probably still correct.

If you have more FEMA courses than those listed here, I would suggest sending your FEMA transcript to TESC and see if they give you credit for any not on this list or in the online search catalog.

All right, that's pretty much all I needed to know. Thank you very much!

Hi, I suggest you use the American Council of Education transcripting service. Q118 can be used toward Gen Ed or Adult Ed(1) credit. Q318 can be used for HR, behavioral science and more. I went to the USFA site and plugged the course numbers into the search on the upper right. There are more areas that these can be transcripted for other then the ones I mentioned. You will have to bring this to TESC attention because they may be inclined to group them into Fire Science. These are the most flexible credits I have seen. I hope this helps. Hille

tried to PM you hillie. Thanks for the advice. I do believe that ACE has not reviewed the FEMA courses so getting my courses transcribed with ACE would only work on a few other things I have and I want to get all the credit I can in one place. If you have reason to believe that ACE takes the FEMA courses now, that would change things.

I'm not exactly sure what you are pointing out to me in that last post gates. I have taken the courses 118, 318, and 534 as recommended in other posts. I have the certs and am getting ready to credit bank them along with my FEMA credits, IT certs, and AP stuff. I should probably put what I have currently done in my signature to avoid any confusion.

i have been reading some of gates' other posts and noticed this post:
"Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS)
Yes [they do offer college credit], check out the free Masters program for those who qualify.

    Texas Engineering Extension Service (TEEX)
The free three day classroom course "PER212-WMD/Terrorism Incident Defensive Operations for Emergency Responders" is offered around the country and is ACE rated for two college hours."

I was wondering if I could get clarification especially on the 1st one. Is there any credit besides the free masters program? I was looking around the site and was unable to find anything. As for TEEX that will likely be the next thing I tackle. I love free college credit. I guess I just call them and schedule a time to take the class? Do I need to be at a certain skill level or should I study something particular ahead of time?

    Thanks.

Hillie was refering to having Q118 and Q318 put on a ACE transcript and then it being sent to TESC with along with a request for the courses to be given something more than the usual fire service credit TESC gives. See this link for the varies ways ACE supports recommending credit for Q118 and Q318.

Naval Postgraduate School Center for Homeland Defense and Security (CHDS) is a program that gives a free Masters degree in part by correspondence and part in residence for those who are employed full-time by a local, tribal, state, or federal government agency or the U.S. military, and have homeland security experience and responsibilities. There are short versions of some courses offered online that only give you a certificate and no college credit.

TEEX PER212-WMD/Terrorism Incident Defensive Operations for Emergency Responders is one that you usually have to watch their schedule and take for free when someone in your area has invited them in to hold the class. It is classroom only.

I see. Sorry to both of you for being dense earlier. That's a great point and I will consider doing that.

So the only option for me out of the two options listed earlier is the TEEX class. I will try to do that.
Incidentally since I have you here, would TESC give more than the 27 credits for FEMA credit if I actually got a degree where I could use it for more than electives? I saw many threads discussing how I could use them for more than electives if I was going for an emergency management degree; however, I was unclear as to whether or not they meant you could earn more credits than 27 or just use the 27 credits more effectively.

One last thing that is driving me crazy. Besides EC does getting the FEMA credit put on a credit bank really help transferability that much? Also will the transcript specifically mention FEMA or will it just appear that I took however many TESC courses?

    Cheers!

TESC will list every FEMA course for credit on your TESC transcript. I had 38 FEMA courses listed for 39 credits on the transcript. How many apply to the degree program and how many are used as electives will depend on the degree program you are entering and whether or not any rules have changed recently.

Transferability is a big question. I got FEMA courses transfered from TESC to Excelsior via a TESC transcript. Other have not. You would have to try many schools to see what happens, which most have no reason to do.
