Be Proud of Your Accomplishments, Not Your Affiliations

    You make a very valid point about class. She would not have been considered upper class (she was a definitely a commoner, along with the vast majority of Brits), but being the daughter of a grocer who owns two stores and who had a position in local politics she wouldn't be working class, either.

    Her skills and work ethic obviously permitted her to take advantage of the opportunities she encountered. My point was simply that someone in her shoes did have some relative advantages. She was not raised in wealth, but she was not raised in poverty.

    Studies have shown that boys raised with no father, but with upper middle class status do worse in life than boys raised in poverty or lower middle class status who have a father present.
