Good Morning, I know I have asked this question before. Is there anything new in autism credentials for educators. Looking for a short term certificate currently that will be a resume builder. This is for an existing certified educator who works with these great kids. Thanks. Hille

And as you know, there's one at UMass.

Should we list this a third time? ;)

Yeah, it's been mentioned before. I'll take this opportunity to make an editorial comment. The Umass cert is a five course cert program. I think that 15 credits is pretty standard for such a thing. I haven't looked at the other programs listed but I think that a program that is substantially shorter is virtually without value. Can someone reasonably expect to get a certification for taking two courses?

Good Morning, What I know about the field would lead me to believe a masters or above is needed for the career. I am currently looking for a certificate that gives information and exposure to autism and can be added to a resume. Does not have to hold credit. Thanks for the thoughts. Hille

    Cal Poly Pomona
Added Authorization/Certificate in Autism Spectrum Disorders
Three courses, potentially for transferrable academic credit with letter grades, each online but including "field experience observing and working with individuals with ASD."

CARD (Center for Autism and Related Disorders)
    CARD eLearning Program
"40-hour online training course designed to facilitate effective intervention for children with autism by equipping users with foundational knowledge in ABA (Applied Behavior Analysis), autism and research- proven intervention techniques." $150 for individuals, with certificate of completion.

Autism Society, and other providers linked
    Online Courses and Tutorials
Some free and low-cost. The free courses Autism 101 and Autism and the Environment 101 each "take approximately 30 minutes to complete."

    Universal Class
    Autism 101
1 CEU, representing 10 contact hours; $65 with CEU certificate.

    Autism Workshop
    Autism Workshop
Based on a few hours work, and "certified by the State of New York as a provider of the Needs of Students With Autism Workshop." $45.

Here are just a few. You could probably find more, while tending to rule out more expensive and substantial credit programs, by searching autism "certificate of completion," autism course online, autism course distance, autism workshop online, autism CEU online, etc.

    Hi Hille,

Perhaps an option for your friend would be to find an online graduate certificate in autistic spectrum disorders that would transfer directly into a masters program at the same institution. This is really the best of both worlds - she could either stop at the certificate, or continue on to complete a masters.

As an example, your friend could complete the UND Graduate Certificate in Autistic Spectrum Disorders (12 credits) in one year and then (if interested) transfer those credits to the UND MS in Special Education (34 credits) with a Specialization in ASD.
