Just got a reply from the director at the Atlanta Campus and he said that they are changing the DBA program, effective 2006, where they are going to offer all concentrations at all campuses. So that just might work out.

    Another Question Dr Rene

Do you defend your dissertation at Argosy?

    dst10spr97,

Yes--you definitely defend your dissertation at Argosy. Argosy holds open/public dissertation defenses--they advertise the dissertations defense sessions throughout the campus--and all faculty and students from all schools (Business, Education, and Psychology) are invited to attend. I had a packed house and I remember answering questions from some Education and Psychology professors and students.

I always recommend to new doctorate students to attend a dissertation defense to get an idea what the process is like. I attended a dissertation defense when I first started the DBA program--the experience was invaluable.

If you decide to go this route would you be kind enough to post your experience with the Atlanta Campus?

    Thanks and good luck,

    Dr. Rene,

What schedules does the Orange County campus usually have for weekend classes? Is it feasible for someone working in Los Angeles full-time to complete the DBA Mgt program 49% online and 51% in residence (driving from and to LA on Saturdays and/or Sundays)?

Also, how supportive or competitive is the atmosphere among DBA students? And how much of the discussion time per session is wasted on know-it-all "air hogs" who think the whole session is all about them, them, and them :) And how are the admin support services? (I have a friend who kept complaining about Cal State LA's admissions and registrar's offices losing his records on a regular basis and taking forever to respond to student queries...)

    Thanks!

    Arch

    Arch23,

What schedules does the Orange County campus usually have for weekend classes?

When I was in the program, our courses ran on Friday night (starting around 5:30 pm), all day Saturday, and half day Sunday for three week-ends. Some times the week-ends were alternating, other times they was consecutive. Also, during the summer, Argosy offered courses that met for one week--Monday thru Friday, 8 to 5. For all of the courses, the syllabus was sent out approx 1 month in advance, with assignments (presentations, journal reviews) due on the first day of class. A major research paper was due approx 1 week after the course ended.

Is it feasible for someone working in Los Angeles full-time to complete the DBA Mgt program 49% online and 51% in residence (driving from and to LA on Saturdays and/or Sundays)?

Yes--it is feasible. In fact, the program is designed for full-time working professionals. I was working full time (in the Air Force stationed in El Segundo) while I was attending Argosy Orange County.

Also, how supportive or competitive is the atmosphere among DBA students?

I found my colleagues to be very supportive. We would share information from our own specialties with other students who were doing research in these areas. Most of the students were career professionals who had a lot to offer in the areas of business administration. I established great networking relationships with my fellow students. The atmosphere between students was more collaborative than competitive.

And how much of the discussion time per session is wasted on know-it-all "air hogs" who think the whole session is all about them, them, and them.

I did not experience this at Argosy. The students at Argosy were mostly business professionals who were focused on their research. What you describe reminds me of some of the more competitive MBA programs.

And how are the admin support services?

Since Argosy campuses are rather small compared to other schools, I found the student support services to be very responsive and personal. Even during week-end classes, the student support services offices were open and available for the students. Most issues and problems were resolved on the spot and in real time.

    I decided

I decided to go ahead and go with the DBA in Accounting from Argosy. I had been researching and investigating a few programs, and had narrowed it down to Argosy and Nova. I decided to go with Argosy because of more flexibility, better choices of courses in my major (accounting), the presence of an Atlanta campus, and my UOP tuition discount.

I applied the other day and I will be enrolling as a Sarasota student, and taking classes at both the Atlanta and Sarasota campuses. Like I said in a previous post the dean said that in 2006 all campuses will offer all programs. However since Sarasota has been doing the accounting DBA for a while, I feel more comfortable with that situation than anything.

Anybody who attended Sarasota recommend any close hotels to stay in while I am there, and things to do when I am not in class (if I will have time)? Luckily Airtran (my favorite reasonably priced airline) flies there from Atlanta. So far the people at Sarasota and Atlanta have been great. They wanted me to take my first course (B7001 Business Research Writing) in Sarasota but it conflicts with my schedule. So I won't see the actual campus until Fall. I just hope everyone continues to be supportive throughout this entire process. About how long should it take me to complete the program if I take approximately 2 courses a semester....Given a year for the dissertation? Or would a 2 course load be overwhelming for a working professional? I do work full time and teach part time for UOP, however I have no other obligations right now (i.e. family, kids, spouse..etc). So hopefully 2 courses will work for me. I am very excited about starting my first course at the end of July. Just need my financial aid process to go smoothly so I can pay for it all. :D

    Dr Rene or anyone else

Anyone that has their doctorate from Argosy, do you have a copy of the actual degree, a scanned picture or something. Just curious to see it.

    Thanks

Herff Jones is one company that sells diploma frames. If you go to the Herff Jones website, click your way to "college" and then "diploma frames", search for Argosy, you will see not only H J's diploma frames, but also a diploma from Argosy---in this case, from the Twin Cities campus. My Argosy Orange County diploma looks very similar, only difference is the Orange County name.
