Refresh my memory - Why do Australian schools need to be DETC accredited? Is it so American students can get federal funding such as Pell grants? Is there any other reason?
I read another thread on this board (I think it was one of the recent CCU threads) that DETC accreditation does not make the school (or its students) eligible for financial aid. Is this correct? If so, what does DETC (and its members) have to do to make it eligible for its students to receive federal aid?
DETC schools are eligible for VA benefits through the military, IE GI Bill or Tuition Assistance can be used at these schools. That's why military personnel use DETC schools a lot. The FEDs are the ones that have denied financial assistance to DETC schools. They have a stipulation that at least 50% of the schools instruction must not be distance. Of course they have s study going on to see if granting financial assistance to distance only schools would be a good idea. that's how we have schools like Kaplan, Capella, WGU offering financial assistance. But they are all RA.
