A surprising (to me) attack on TESC and TUI

Is there such a thing as a "great political theorist"?

A great political theorist is one who can totally tick people off. Like Ted Kaczynski. Or Rush Limbaugh.

This is kind of unrelated, but....

Speaking of inaccurate information, have a look at this TESC webpage.

    http://www.tesc.edu/prospective/undergraduate/credit/transfer.php

There is one paragraph where not a single organizational name is correct. Can you find this paragraph of ignorance? Is this acceptable coming from an institution of higher learning accredited by a 'CHEA' recognized agency?

As I recall the director of Quackwatch has a rather specific agenda, in particular against chiropractic care. I certainly wouldn't trust it when making any decisions regarding health and wellness. The website is not in any way an impartial source of information, and routinely ignores studies which do not support its dubious conclusions. As to caffeine, like most things it seems to be very good for you in moderate doses (I recall reading a study in which students who drank coffee before an exam did better than their non-caffeinated peers).

I don't know the agenda on this particular website but here is an article about quackwatch that is similar to what I've read elsewhere. http://www.metagenics.com/company/skeptics.asp

Sorry? Did Quackwatch condemn caffine? I missed that one.

Oh my god! Next thing you know, universities will be requiring students to take urinalyses before examinations in order to make sure that some students don't take their exams under the influence of such dangerous performance-enhancing drugs as caffeine!

Actually, Quackwatch condemned a Union Institute PhD who did his dissertation on caffeine. Said Union doc's studies claim that caffeine is bad for one, if I read the weblink right.

Would you rather trust "magic remedy" industry for health related information?

Actually, Ted, could you point to an example or two of the Quackwatch opinions that you believe are not true and explain why?

Again, my principal objection was to the caricature of two legitimate accredited universities by someone revealing a total lack of knowledge about distance learning. Possibly the article hit at the emotional level because the Union doc's surname is shared by one of my great-grandmothers (and I may have overreacted because of this second reason). And possibly I'm a bit cynical about the notion that the drugs & surgery approach of modern Western allopathic medicine is the only way.

Oh, okay. Well, the reason for my original post was to express more or less the same reservations. I will say that I developed a curiosity about CAM a few years ago and I found Quackwatch invaluable as a resource for research.

Well said, Steve. I graduated with an "Edison State" BSBA earlier this year. My diploma, which is dated March 4, 2005, names the conferring institution as "Thomas A. Edison State College".
