There is a great local program offered online/on campus and I often think about it as a career change. My wife used to sell pre-need funeral property - what a tough sell. "You will die one day so plan now!"

I'm sure that job was almost the DEATH of her.

For anyone interested in becoming a mortician, I highly recommend this, ahem, excellent school. Watch their promotional video: THE MORTICIAN'S JOKE! - YouTube

I did not know that that quote was from Ben Franklin.

When I first was discharged from the Army and was looking for any possible extra cash to avoid moving back home, I worked doing "removals" (lugging dead bodies) for a funeral home. The work was erratic, usually at shitty times (3am), but every body I helped remove was worth $100 (in mid-1980's dollars), and all I had to do was comb my hair, shave (if I needed it), put on a suit, and go to the funeral home for the ride there, then get the body in the back of the hearse, then to the embalming room. It was usually less than an hour, more like 30-45 minutes.

The funeral director actually suggested I enroll in a mortuary science A.S. program so I could work for him full-time, but I was all-set with that.

So.....funeral services? Yes, great career option for many.....just not for me. I much prefer to deal with the freshly dead (this conversation is going places, eh?) than the old dead.

    Who may turn into zombies.
